The share of the workforce in labor unions dropped to 10.1 percent, the lowest on record, the Labor Department said Thursday, even as the total number of union members in the United States grew by 273,000 last year.

I worked on both sides.  Union and non union. Both have fair shares of pros and cons. However,  I had better luck in union environments.  I've witnessed some really head scratching incidents in non union environments.

@forum-titan Union membership works for some, not for others. I'm more in the Right to Work camp.

My dad and grandfather were union coal miners. Unions were vital to ensuring safe work environments. Over the years this message has been lost, but that’s how they began. It also helped prevent the coal companies from taking advantage of its workers by requiring they live in company housing and buying from the company store, thus taking back all the money the laborers were paid. My great grandfather was fired from his coal mining job because he bought an ice box from a store that gave him a better deal than the company store. Without unions in our past, these types of labor practices could still exist. America….land of the free.

@lionbacker99  the plant I work at ain’t union but we pretty much follow what the union plants do except for the way we get paid. The union plants make the same amount per hour when I work around guy’s making more money than I am and I’ve got 25 more years. I do pretty good but I’m still behind a couple of dollars and it just ain’t right. Without unions most workers would get screwed.  We had a guy transfer from Pa where they are union and he can’t believe what happens at our plant. I wish we were union but I got it made but I still want the other $2 😂

I believe in pay scales because like the company I work for they’ll let you work for $5 if that’s what you put down. I’m a believer in equal work for equal pay and I believe it’s the law in Georgia but I’m sure there’s loopholes because my company doesn’t follow it. We got a great company it’s just some of the white collar bosses where we work have to be forced to do the right thing. That’s the reason we have all these laws in the work place because people won’t do the right thing unless they’re forced too. My manager has tried buts it’s above his head with the pay. I’ve got the best manager he’s a great guy.
