a Little League world series regional game (Conn vs. RI). The home plate umpire made the game unwatchable, balls 4"-6" outside were almost always strikes. I felt sorry for the batters. They were eventually forced to hack at anything near the plate. A friend claims that if these were not strikes the games would take forever (due to walks), pitchers would use up the 85 pitches in a few innings. If that's the case, why not make the plate wider?
