im glad we have  players like Barkley that appreciate the college that helped him get where he was and play in the bowl game. I don’t agree with quitting on your team. James Franklin used Barkley just enough to win the game. Had James Franklin turned Barkley loose we beat Washington by 28 points. It just sets a bad example IMO to quit on your team when your team helped you get where you are. It’s just my opinion though.

Yeah, I saw Grier was sitting and it is sad. I mean, yeah protect yourself I guess but it is also abandoning your teammates

This trend in College Football is disturbing.  West Virginia should sue him for breech if contract.  If this continues, the bowl season will become meaningless.

Perhaps he's sitting out to focus on academics.

Problem is it is likely that this guy never went to college with the intent to obtain a legitimate education.   I understand his thinking and unfortunately this is becoming the new normal in college football.  I think it stinks.

People who don't want a legitimate education don't work their butts off to graduate in three years, which Will Grier did. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from WVU last year.

I stand corrected on Grier regarding his educational goals. But it still stinks that he is dissing his teammates and coach. This trend will have a deleterious affect on the bowl season. The non playoff games are becoming merely exhibitions.  Maybe the solution is to expand the playoffs to 16 teams and end all of the Twinkie Bowls. The thought with this proposal is that with meaning behind the games, all the players will stay.

Top draft players aren't gonna play regardless of the bowl/playoff system as this movement continues. I think Greer is a good example. Awesome that he graduated in 3 years;  that allowed him to totally focus on football. Now that he showcased his skills throughout out the year, the NFL audition is over; why risk a blown out knee or broke leg before the draft if your are a first rounder?

It gives football another black eye IMO. Nobody is any better than Barkley and he played in the bowl game because he appreciated what penn st and coaches and teammates did for him. They helped him get to where he is and he didn’t quit on  ‘em. Shows great character IMO

I guess when it is a lesser bowl, maybe it is different

I get the black eye stink sentiment but until the ncaa pays up while the player is playing or the school self insures the player against injury; players today and tomorrow could care less about that stink. After seeing a couple pro QBs go out with potential career ending injuries this year, ain't no way in hell a family is not going to support their kid sitting out vs playing and jeopardizing 1st or 2nd round money due to a bowl game injury. Unfortunately I think it's just whats gonna continue to happen especially meaningless bowl games e.g non-playoff.  Hey the system supports the current game, don't hate on the player.

I don’t hate the players. I’m all for players leaving early for the NFL  if they’re good enough and I’ve been very vocal about paying them some money but I also believe they should finish what they start.

Each situation is different, so I can't really hate on the kid for skipping the Camping World Bowl against Syracuse.

If it's a NY6 bowl, I'd probably feel different.
