I am going to wade in here with my thoughts...#1 I thought the offensive coordinator sucked and had no imagination. I am not saying the WR's were stellar by any stretch of the imagination HOWEVER that OC never put those players in a position to succeed...He just ran the same ole shit time after time hoping it would somehow work... #2 for whatever reason Allar played "not to lose" instead of playing to win if that makes any sense to you guys...Yes the TD to Int ratio was impressive and I ain't saying I want the kid to chuck the ball all over the lot willy nilly but my God you can't tell me he didn't have occasions where he missed open guys up field or just chose to take the safe route...There are times in every game where you gotta let it fly and there is no question the arm talent is there... #3 This new OC had success at Kansas for God sake...I know the Big 12 isn't known for their stellar defense but that dude had Kansas putting up points so I am hopeful he can do the same for Penn State...I have always said the great coaches didn't force their system on the players they were coaching but tailored their schemes around the players strengths...They put their players in positions to succeed...This year we will find out if Franklin is indeed the issue...They are going to lose a minimum of 10 players to the NFL this year...It has been a very long time since Penn State lost 10 players minimum that are NFL caliber...So they are going to have a lot of holes to fill...Also the loss of Diaz could be significant if Allen doesn't step in as a worthy replacement...This is going to be an interesting season in Happy Valley...With the schedule they have they should not lose more than 1 game in my opinion...I believe they have their 2 toughest games at home...I also agree with Roam...they better be ready when they head to West Virginia cause that is no picnic to play in that ballpark...As Joe used to say it can get wild up there especially when that mountain dew starts flowing...They are going to be laying for em and they better be ready...We are all going to learn a lot after that ballgame as to what to expect this season...
I wouldn't say Michael Penix Jr. was mediocre, he played at Indiana and they only 2 years he started they were 8-5 & 6-2. They hadn't had a winning season since 2007, and haven't had one since he left. You're right though, his full potential was definitely unlocked at Washington. As for Bo Nix, absolutely. He was just overwhelmed with expectations at Auburn and they dumped a lot of the team's failures on him.Bo Nix and Penix Jr. were mediocre in their first 2 years as starters but turned into stars after going to new teams with decent offensive schemes and very good receivers.
@roaminglion but the old PAC 12 defense was a gift to good QB’s
Yet Michael Penix Jr's highest passing totals were all against teams not in the PAC 12. Michigan State and Texas were 2 of them. So why were Pac 12 schools playing better defense than those teams? Let me guess... another excuse coming.@roaminglion but the old PAC 12 defense was a gift to good QB’s
Jaxon Dart struggled mightily at Ole Miss before this season. So much so that Kiffin brought in a starting QB from another program as a transfer last year. Some guys just need some time to feel comfortable and let the game come to them. We aren’t in practice everyday watching the QBs. Or in the film room. We have no idea who works the hardest behind the scenes. Beau looks good running the ball, but we still haven’t seen him have to sit in the pocket, read a defense and complete a pass consistently. As they say, the backup QB is the most popular guy in town.
@roaminglion Come on Roam, you know the PAC defenses stunk.
When Beau did complete a TD pass James Franklin took him out and put him back on the bench. There was no reason not to give him the next set of downs after that TD.
Just answer the question, why did Penix Jr. throw for more yards last year against teams outside the PAC 12 then? If the PAC 12 defenses are so bad, why is it when Washington played a Big Ten team and the Big 12 Champion, they threw for more yards against them than anyone all year?@roaminglion Come on Roam, you know the PAC defenses stunk.

Simple question...
@roaminglion you’ve even admitted big 12 defenses are bad. I’ll agree all day long that the big 12 and PAC teams usually have very good QB’s regardless of how bad the defense is in them 2 conferences but my point is good QB’s against bad defense means a lot of passing yards and a lot of points.
Yet Washington State, Colorado, and Washington all put up some of their biggest passing numbers against Big Ten defenses.@roaminglion you’ve even admitted big 12 defenses are bad. @roaminglion Washington had a good football team. Don’t know much about Washington St and Colorado did beat your TCU team but we both know Colorado defense stunk. We’ll see next year how Washington and the other 3 PAC teams hold up playing in the big 10.
i heard Paul Finebaum hammering the SEC and big 10 today saying the 2 conference were rigging the playoffs to where they automatically have bye and getting 2 teams automatically in. I caught the tail end of the conversation so I was hoping you might know what he was complaining about? He said it was BS
@southern-psu-fan Washington will be going through a total rebuild and would probably struggle in any conference in 2024 so when it does happen let’s not start your “it’s because they’re in a real conference” BS. UCLA was mediocre in the PAC and will continue with mediocrity in the B1G for at least a few years. Oregon is a borderline elite program that will finish higher ranked than we will and is one of two teams from the B1G that are locks to make the playoff.
@southern-psu-fan What does Colorado's defense have to do with all of those Pac12 teams lighting up the Big Ten defenses they played?
Your premise was Pac 12 defense sucked, and that is why the QBs had such good numbers. But... when those teams played Big Ten teams? Their QBs put up some of their highest passing games of the year.
So how do you explain that?
@psujoe so when Washington loses a few players it’s a total rebuilding time and it might take them time to get back winning but when James Franklin loses a lot of players or the starting QB he still needs to win 11 or 12 games or he needs to be fired? Who’s making excuses? We will kick Washington, USC and UCLA ass this season even if it’s Allar being the QB because the whole team is better and imo we would’ve kicked their ass last year because neither team would’ve been able to move the football. Defense Homer, if anybody should know that it’s you. Roam lives out there in Oregon and watches that second tier defense and he really believes it’s good defense so I’ll cut him a little slack you live in good football country you should know better 😂 come on homer geez man
Who did they play Roam last I checked Michigan beat the dog chit out of Washington just flat out man handled’em. This might be the reason the SEC and big 10 want to rigged the playoffs to keep weak team like Cincinnati, TCU and Washington out. Washington loses 3 games had they played in the big 10 their defense is average and it would’ve been way below average after game 6. You get injuries and they just don’t have the backups to plug another player in. Paul Finebaum said there was 2 elite teams Michigan and Georgia and Georgia was sitting home watching the playoffs. Maybe this system will stop that even though I did like Georgia sitting home.

Washington lost its coach and a lot more than a few players to graduation and transfer portal Bubble Boy.
“ A few players “ . Here’s more proof that you need to step out of your bubble once in a while and also stop listening to dipshit Finebaum.

@southern-psu-fan So your response to Pac 12 teams putting up huge passing numbers against the Big Ten is to point to 1 game against the best team in college football?
Yeah, that's a great example. The best defense and team in college football beat Washington so that apparently negates the Pac 12 destroying other Big Ten defenses?
What the heck is this logic?
@roaminglion you’ll see what I’m talking about this year when Washington, UCLA, Oregon and USC play in the big 10. No excuses
So last year when teams from the PAC 12 threw all over Big Ten teams... that didn't count I guess?@roaminglion you’ll see what I’m talking about this year when Washington, UCLA, Oregon and USC play in the big 10. No excuses
And Wisconsin.@roaminglion Michigan St and Nebraska..come on Roam
So is this what you do? When talking about the Big Ten only the good teams count?
...but the PAC 12 everyone does? Also let me remind you that Nebraska team you mentioned? They were thrown all over BY THE TEAM THAT FINISHED LAST PLACE IN THE PAC 12
Wisconsin? Beat by a 5-7 team. But sure, just keep acting like the Big Ten is only PSU, UM, and OSU.

And don’t forget get that he also claims GA and Bama are invincible and GA Tech is amazing.
7-6 homer Ga Tech is on the rise baby. Brent Key has finally got the team on the right track. I just hope they can get some NIL money or they won’t survive
