I miss the days of 7-8 bowl games that are all played over two days. Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and a couple others whose name I can’t remember and have probably been changed to something else.
And I miss the days when bowl games really meant something with no missing players due to opt-outs & transfer portal entrants. I miss real college football!
Teams are judge by wins and losses regardless of who play and doesn’t play and if a player sits then it’s next man up..that’s just the facts. Did you win or did you lose every team is playing by the same rules. Weymen Sellers use to say..there is no excuse!
The games do matter or they wouldn’t go down as a win or loss in the record books. I don’t believe James Franklin should be fired when he has 9 guys to sit out of the peach bowl game that should be considered but a loss is a loss and it counts as a loss in the record books so the game did matter. Give it time coaches will adjust to guys sitting out.
Tie it in to NIL $, no play, no pay. That would make some of them think a little.
Excuse - Something to point to when you complain about somethingTeams are judge by wins and losses regardless of who play and doesn’t play and if a player sits then it’s next man up..that’s just the facts. Reason - Reality
No one here is complaining about who beat who, I'm stating the reality of the situation. The same teams that played all year are mostly not the ones playing in the bowl games. The Texas A&M / USC game had practically no starters from this year in it. It is what it is, just don't pretend it's indicative of the regular season.
@roaminglion oh I wasn’t pointing at you I’m hearing all the time the games don’t matter and they do matter because teams are judged on wins and losses. Coaches will adjust to guys sitting out it’s part of the game now until we do a 16 team playoff and end the season for all the other teams. I believe that’s coming. FD says all the time the games have to matter and they do matter. We might have to put some games in perspective but the games matter regardless.
The REGULAR season games do matter or should matter...These bowl games other than the playoff games are MEANINGLESS and do NOT matter...Most of the star players are sitting out and many of the key players are in the portal as well...Ironically Bama played Michigan today with basically their whole team playing from the regular season against a depleted Michigan team who had most of their big name players sitting out...They wanted to make a statement that they were screwed and ended up getting beat by Michigan's 2nd team...LOL...So much for that...The Tool and the Pipe are probably together right now curled up in the fetal position with Pipe trying to convince the Tool to eat some turkey bacon and drown his sorrows with some cracklin corona's...They better send out the authorities to find those 2 because after Penn State wins and Notre Dame drills Georgia both of em wont be able to cope and will need to be put on suicide watch and put in padded rooms...The frauds are being exposed...Now you all know why they fought hammer and tong against this type of playoff format...They can't play with themselves anymore...
@the-funeral-director bowl games are not exhibition games they are real games and they count on your record. All the games matter FD but if you don’t like the games that’s ok too.
These bowl games were created as a reward for the northern teams and their fan bases to go to warmer climates for a vacation and as a reward for a successful season...Currently these non playoff bowl games are an extension of spring practice...Most of the kids that are stars are sitting out preparing for the NFL and some are in the portal...You have most of these teams playing younger players to get them experience for next season...Are they real games? Yes they are real games...Are these games a reflection of the teams during the regular season...The answer is NO...
Last year when we got beat by Ole Miss we had 9 players to sit and they had 1 or 2 but both teams were playing by the same rules but I think it’s fair to take into consideration that’s probably why we lost but the game did matter and in 5 years nobody will remember guys sitting out they just remember who won and who lost. It’s like saying the Georgia/ND game is meaningless because Georgia QB isn’t playing…it’s part of the game just like guys sitting out, just gotta deal with it and next man up.
In 5 years no one will remember the game, let alone the players.Last year when we got beat by Ole Miss we had 9 players to sit and they had 1 or 2 but both teams were playing by the same rules but I think it’s fair to take into consideration that’s probably why we lost but the game did matter and in 5 years nobody will remember guys sitting out they just remember who won and who lost. 5 years? You got a longer memory than me Roam...I won't remember that game next year as it will be 2 years out...I remember Chop Robinson...from there my memory fails me...meaningless game...What I remember is they ranked ole Miss ahead of Penn State to start the season based on that meaningless bowl game...
