In the press conference I heard Franklin say they are pleased with the rotation, and that Slade had a "really good night"
WTF??? No he didn't, he had one big run where he had a hole as wide as the grand canyon. The rest of the game he did absolutely nothing, and sucked in pass blocking to boot.
This nonsense is killing our offense. What the heck is going on!
What’s up FD? I see you buddy. That was a great win tonight.
PSU 28. Michigan 27

I agree with u about the RB situation Roam... However I strongly disagree that the RB rotation is the cause of this stagnant offense...My problem is with the play calling and the lack of imagination...This offense is loaded with talent... There is speed everywhere...This game tonight should have been a blowout... The Defense is on the field too long... Tonight Franklin and his entire staff were totally out coached... They won the ballgame but they are playing with fire...Michigan State is gonna be frothing at the mouth next Saturday...They have a terrific defense... This play calling needs to improve or they are gonna get beat... This defense is tremendous but they are on the field too long and sooner or later the offense and its inability to score and put together drives is going to catch up to them... The troubles are much deeper than a RB rotation....

I think it all stems from the RB rotation, they have no identity because of it. Each back is different, so the offense is different every time they step on the field.
With Slade, teams aren't afraid of the run. He's more of a scat back so no real threat in the middle. Yes he had a big run, but the seas parted and he did nothing the rest of the game . His blocking was awful too.
Ford has talent, but he's maybe a year away. Came in August.
Brown is good, but is more of a home run hitter that is a great change of pace back. He'd be a real good 1-2 punch with Cain.
Cain is the guy who brings consistency, which we need. He falls forward and hits the hole hard. Not a home run hitter, but you don't need one at every position. I'd argue that this offense needs a back like him because he's consistent and the only back that makes teams bring extra bodies to stop between the tackles.
Every back is different, and you can't have an offense with a different identity every drive and expect to be consistent.
An aggressive Michigan Defense and I felt the short passing game was poor. We missed open receivers or the defense was there for little gain. I just expected to break some short passes for 10-20 yards. TE is to be a weapon but not in the typical way. Maybe good defense. Maybe we were just fixed on Hamler and the long ball. Multiple backs can't help the passing game.
Shouldn't feel disappointed about a win over a ranked Michigan but I do. Must be the good start and then nothing but hanging on. It was like a double length bull ride.

What is the matter with you guys? Seriously, ok, they got the win. Michigan changed their defense, made adjustments. Yes, it was sloppy, but it was a win. Don't forget, the Idaho's, Buffalo's are long gone. Cripes, you can't win every game by 60 points.
I really liked the swing pass to the back late in the game which resulted in a 4 yard loss. It is an example of pure strategic genius because it will cause Michigan State to commit excessive preparation time to figuring out the logic and preparing to defend against the play.
Concerning the RB rotation: Did I ever tell you folks about this old mule I had?
This is college football and let’s remember that was Jim Harbaugh on the other sideline one of the best coaches in college football. I think some people are a little hard on Harbaugh because they lost to Wisconsin at Wisconsin when Michigan is running a new offense this year with a bunch of new faces on the whole team. Alabama even struggled against Tennessee most of the game last night. Guys this is college football and these other teams are trying to win and it’s very competitive right now y’all seen Wisconsin got beat by Illinois so when you get a win be happy and go on to the next game. Just win baby says everything especially today in college football because you’ll get your butt beat if you ain’t ready to play.

You really need to stop calling him one of the best coaches in college football. He's not.

Exactly right
I agree with you about the running back rotation, enough is enough already. Cain should get the bulk of the carries with Brown mixed in as a change of pace. However, I think this is a perfect example of Franklin's inability to make a timely decision (similar to naming a starting QB, calling strategic time outs, etc.). Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Franklin is a bad coach. He just needs to improve his decision making skills. In other words, he needs to chit or get off the pot!
I'm sorry Southern, I just can't see how Harbaugh is such a great coach. His record against quality competition since he returned to Michigan stinks! His decision to go for a 58 yard field goal was unreal!

I agree with this wholeheartedly. It's totally possible to criticize Franklin while still thinking he's a great coach. What he's done at PSU has been phenomenal, but as he himself stated: He's not elite "yet".
What was with that timeout at the end of the half? Just to punt the ball? Weird. What you should do there is let the clock run... It makes Michigan spend their TO if they chose to, or you call a TO when the clock is down to :02 and throw a hail mary. You're on the 50, so why not? Or just let the clock run out.
The rotation... ugh the rotation. He seems to get an idea in his head and over thinks it, and I think he's doing that with the rotations. Last year it was LBs and safeties, this year it's RBs... Neither year it worked. Really, Ricky Slade is the new Koa Farmer... Everyone knows Cain should play, except Franklin. Just like Koa Farmer had been obviously passed by Mich Parsons last year, and playing subpar guys doesn't help the team.
I like Ricky Slade... but he shouldn't be starting or playing as much as he is. He missed several key blocks in pass protection and looked mediocre on run plays. Yes, when he gets a big hole he can burst through it with speed, but what makes a RB great is being able to get the tough yards, not just when there's a big hole.
That's what's SO FRUSTRATING about Franklin. He's done SOOOOO much good here and he's SOOOOO close... I just don't want to see him fail because of a few stubborn quirks like this rotation nonsense. He just needs to make some decisions and put them to bed. When I think about the RB rotation a quote comes to mind: "When you try to please everyone, you'll end up pleasing no one."
