Ryan Day speculated at Thursday’s event with 100 local business leaders that Buckeyes players could put their names in the transfer portal at the end of a season and be swayed by offers elsewhere. The NCAA’s one-time transfer exception, which was expanded to all sports last spring, also provides them with immediate eligibility.

"One phone call and they’re out the door," Day said, as transcribed by Cleveland.com’s Doug Lesmerises. "We cannot let that happen at Ohio State. I’m not trying to sound the alarm, I’m just trying to be transparent about what we’re dealing with."

IMO the NCAA just needs to get real and lock it down. Basically say, we tried this experiment and it went sideways. The NBA is the one locking you out of the draft, not us. Yet you are using that as an excuse the WE need to alter OUR rules for competing.

Any schools that want out of amateur athletics... there's the door. More power to you, and have fun with NIL and paying your athletes. We aren't going to do that, it's just not feasible longterm. It is what it is, if you want play in the NCAA then abide by our rules or you are gone. If not, there's professional sports. Go ahead, no one is stopping you.

What pisses me off about this situation is the people who act as if the NCAA is the one forcing them to go to college. No one is doing that, yet that's the rhetoric. The NBA is the real villain here, specifically THE PLAYERS WHO NEGOTIATED THAT INTO THE CBA. They are the ones preventing high schoolers from entering the draft.

They can do something else, just like everyone else who isn't good enough to make the NBA.

College football and other college sports has gotten exactly what people were screaming for so I’m not sure why anyone is acting surprised at the current NIL and transfer portal situation. The NCAA is unlikely to do anything because the “woke” folks that were doing the screaming will scream again and threaten lawsuits if they do. Rationale people saw this coming from a mile away and no one wanted to listen.

We’ve decided to continue purchasing season tickets for now but I personally don’t care anymore and my enthusiasm for CFB has been mostly destroyed.

@southern-psu-fan Cheating death keeps your blood flowing! Funny though, now that I think about it a bit. I regularly have those "that could have been ugly" incidences around the house and working in the woods. But it's only the ones when I'm driving, that really scare the shit out of me, pounding heart, dry mouth, knot in your stomach. I'm sure you've been there, particularly the idiots that seem to like to play chicken w/ semis at 65 mph.

@psujoe Hoping I don't keep sliding down that slope myself. NIL still seems pretty foreign to me. It's not going away, but maybe they can reign it in a little.

@roam

I understand your NBA logic but how does that impact Ryan Day needing 17 million dollars to keep his team intact?

It doesn't now, it would have stading up to it then. The NCAA didnt confront it when they had the chance

Y’all know ole southern can be a socialist every now and then so I say give a scholarship for an education, food and board and a  $100 a week spending money for all athletes men and women and if you don’t want to play sports for that go do something else! Spending money can be less to none of a $100 but can’t exceed $100. Like Nike says…just do it
