We lost out on this dude to Wisconsin…why are we losing guys to Wisconsin?
I’d love to know where our NIL money is going. Is it being saved to pay players to come back next year? Or are we afraid of spending on someone in the portal that would offend players already on the roster?
He played at Grand Valley State and was from upper Michigan. Maybe Madison just felt more like home to him.
Interesting portal tidbits:
- All 23 points Notre Dame scored against Georgia were by players aquired through the portal.
- Texas's OT touchdown that put them ahead was scored by a portal player, and the interception to seal it was also a portal player.
- All 4 defenses have many portal players as starters, including both our starting DBs who were initially recruited by and attended Georgia.
@psujoe From what I've heard, but cant 100% confirm, is that the majority of our NIL monies are being used to retain our current players.
We cant hang with the big boys like OSU, UM, and the SEC when it comes to NIL funds. The problem is that many of the older donors are still pissed at the way the University handled the whole JVP debacle and are refusing to donate anything until amends are made (my grandfather included). Also, many of them aren't crazy about the way CJF is handling things in regards to his coaching strategy as well as his contract extension. Right or wrong, that's just the state of affairs at the moment.
What we need is a big named donor like the wrestling team has in Ira Lubert.
And rightfully so in my opinion. I have no problem with Franklin, but the screwing of JoePa is my beef!
@rip I love James Franklin but when he got the contract I didn’t think he should’ve gotten it but looking today, he deserves the contract. Penn St football is in great shape. Ive always said we’re top 5 team we just got Ohio State in our heads and they need to get the fudge out 😂 Since we struggle with Ohio State doesn’t mean we struggle with all the other teams. It’s hard to beat Ohio State and even harder when we have big 10 refs calling the game.

So if people aren’t donating money why do I keep hearing we’re #7 in NIL funds? And why do we keep hearing we’re going to be more aggressive in going after players in the portal?

The whole NIL scheme needs to be reigned and some firm parameters established. I got gramps sitting here beside me and he wants to know if you're still chasing the deer down in PA??
This is cutting off your nose despite your face if it were true which I highly doubt it is. If the team had the ability to leverage high level donors they would, they wouldn’t be begging their alum and fan base for collective money. I find hard to believe there’s a secret group of Penn State billionaires withholding capital.
@thepakid Nope, we just sold the cabin since my parents realized that were getting a little old to be doing the work that needs done and no one else is volunteering to help. I’d like to find a place in southern NY near the Catskills for fly fishing the East and West branches of the Delaware and Beaverkill rivers.
unfortunately politicians have made that almost impossible. They passed laws that made this the wild, wild west. Last ti.e the NCAA tried to put some guardrails up for NIL and transfers they were sued and lost.@psujoe My guess is we're a distant 7th. Kularrow : Terry,Ira, and Hugh said hello. Like I said I cant confirm 100% but I can tell you that to date Terry Pegula, Ira Lubert, and Hugh Rodham have been approached and have politely passed on ponying up any funds. Not saying they wont in the future but as of yet they havent.

Yeah, gramps just sold his cabin and land in Northern PA last year. The Catskills are a beautiful destination. Good luck in your search. Im supposed to tell you that if you ever want to walk on water (ice fish) you're welcomed up here in Maine.
