As I have posted many time to my friend Roam regarding the CFP...Tonight's game is one of those "elimination" games...This is a playoff game tonight...The winner will be in the catbird seat and in control of their destiny to the B1G championship game...Here is what I am going to be looking for....
1. DLine pressure...Haskins has a big arm but as I was reviewing his tape 95% of his completions are guys running wide open...Penn State is going to have to limit his time and not let him get too comfortable back there..
2. Linebacker play...These linebackers are going to have to make the right reads and hit the gaps against this outfit...Bad reads and bad angles are going to lead to big plays and touchdowns against this team...
3. Secondary....They are going to have to do a better job of tackling on the bubble screens OSU is going to run...They have tackled poorly so far this season and that is going to have to improve against this ballclub...
4. WR's must catch the ball tonight...This is the captain obvious of the list but I had to put it in there anyway...The WR corps hasn't had any trouble getting open or separation but they need to catch the ball tonight...
5. OLine...There is not going to be Nick Bosa to deal with but this unit has to hold serve and do just enough to give operating room to McSorley and the RB's to operate and do what they do...
I will spare you guys the ole turnover, penalty and mistake nonsense...That is a given...
I believe they are underestimating the talent on this Penn State team from an athletic, speed and talent standpoint...This isn't the situation of 2 or 3 years ago where there was a huge speed, talent and athletic gap between these programs...Penn State can and will match up with Ohio State all over the field...To think that Haskins isn't going to be affected by the environment this evening is just being delusional...It is going to affect how he snaps the ball, audibles and how the OLine fires off the ball...And YES I think he is going to be somewhat intimidated by the atmosphere he is walking into...In my mind that position is where Penn State has the biggest advantage...McSorley is the old steady hand who has played in many of these types of games and Haskins is the rookie...McSorley will not be rattled or get rattled but will Haskins? How is he going to respond to the environment and the Penn State pressure? You can bet they have blitz packages and will be showing new looks tonight defensively...I believe Penn State is gong to rattle this kid and force him into turnovers...They ain't playing Oregon state tonight...I expect Penn State to jump out on them early and to take control of this ballgame...I am calling it Penn State 41 Ohio State 31...
