(not currently a HC) is out there flying under the radar. I wonder what team will have the foresight, the courage or the luck to hire him.
It very well may be Penn State if Brady is the guy they hire...The word is Penn State isn't the only suiter for Mr Brady's services...He evidently is a hot commodity for the current NFL jobs that open up as well...I honestly believe it is down to Cignetti and Brady for who is going to be the next head coach at PSU...Going to be a very interesting 2 months...
I’m starting to hope there is a secret candidate that we don’t know about because of all the probable guys to come here none of them other than Brady gets me excited and he is supposedly a long shot.
Rhule NO ! Manny NO ! Cig ain’t happening, Drinkwitz ain’t happening and Brohm is a long shot.
oh GOD no to ole cousin Urban
That would be interesting! Since we're not the good old Penn State we knew & loved and already sold our soul, why the heck not?
Urban at PSU wins a Natty within 3 years.
Give him a 4 year contract with no buyouts on either side but with performance incentives. The assumptive subjective shenanigans be damned!
You bring ole cousin Urban in and you better hire security for the coeds...That pervert is going to raise havock between his grab assing with the coeds and his circle of trust nonsense...I have no doubt about the program being successful and getting the desired national championship but the cost is going to be great...He is going to need a couple of babysitters...The program will be selling it's collective souls for it just to be clear...If I was running the show I would be back channeling Cignetti and seeing what it is going to take to get him to State College...That is just me...I honestly think he is the answer...The next guy after Cignetti would be John Gruden believe it or not...If you can't get one of those 2 guys my 3rd choice would be Brohm and the same would apply to him...Ante up whatever it takes and get him in here...The fall back choice would be Brady...Those would be my 4 targets...These guys in charge ain't where they are in life because they were naive or stupid...I am sure they have done all of the due diligence already and the wheels are in motion for whoever they are targeting...I don't want Manny, Rhule, Ole cousin Urban or any of these other retreads that are being bantered about...The guy from Missouri or the guy from Texas A&M don't move me either...They need to get a splash hire in here that knows what the hell he is doing and has a proven track record of success...
@the-funeral-director Manny knows what’s going on and the defense will be elite and His offense is pretty good and would be better with Penn St players.
2025 season, Duke's offense is ranked 18th in total yards. 463 per game. Manny would be a huge get imo
EVERY team that Manny Diaz has coached has underperformed...He got run out of Miami cause he couldn't get it done...Duke isn't lighting the world on fire...He is a fantastic Defensive Coordinator and that is what he should be doing...He isn't a top tier head coach...I wouldn't hire him considering the candidates that are available...I will pass on Manny Diaz...
@the-funeral-director Come on FD, it’s Duke and until Miami gets a stadium on campus they’ll be a thing of the past with lots of hype. He’s doing a good job at Duke their offense moves the football pretty good and we might get that QB if we get Manny. I want a strong defensive minded coach just in case Penn St can’t keep up with the money. It’s a lot of money the program has to come up with and with Manny you know we’ll compete with everyone out there because our defense will be elite. He need a chance to see with the offense but the way Dukes offense looks he’ll be good. Ain’t nobody won shit in Miami in 25 years.
I know you know your football FD so can you explain something to me that I can’t wrap my brain around. All the teams in Florida stink it’s like none of the teams can do anything right. Are there so many teams that the product on the field is just watered down because Florida has great high school football and every team down there sucks and has stunk most of the time for years? I welcome anybody to try and answer this?
You can say "it's Duke" but the previous regime did a fairly good job there and he didn't inherit and empty cupboard...You could use the same logic with Indiana and Cignetti...Who started with the worse situation? Regarding the Florida schools are concerned...This isn't the 1980's or 90's anymore...You have all these major schools going down there and poaching that state...Especially now with the pay to play that is going on...Most of these kids come from abject poverty and this is their payday...They are going where the money is...Yes Fernando Mendoza has a 3 million dollar valuation right now...What was his valuation in April? Cignetti has taken that kid from a middle of the road QB as far as valuation was concerned to probably the 1st overall draft pick...They weren't talking about Mendoza for the Heisman even in August were they? Hell he wasn't even mentioned as being on the All Big Ten team for crying out loud...That is coaching...Period...How many QB's do you think are going to be lined up to join his program moving forward? This guy made the CFP last season with mainly James Madison transfers...That's coaching...That is doing more with less...I am telling ya...If I am Penn State I am backing up the brinks truck to get this guy...Contract or no contract...You pay the buyout and bring this guy in...You are spending upwards of a billion dollars in stadium renovations and facility renovations...You can't be putting out a product like they did this year...They can't afford to f**k around and finding out with this hire...This hire needs to be a grand slam or this program will be set back worse than it was during those sanctions...Manny Diaz, Rhule and that ilk ain't getting it done...They need a splash hire with proven success...Cignetti is it...A 15 million buyout is peanuts when you are talking a billion dollars...I wouldn't be shocked if talks haven't been going on with him...He is the guy in my opinion that they gotta bring in...
@the-funeral-director my son just told me he believes it’s the OC from Ohio St. he heard somewhere that the dude had another meeting with Penn St folks. After Jim Knowles I don’t want to take a chance on a dude that’s 3 deep at every position because he won’t have that at Penn St. it’s hard for me to forget the Ohio St coaches were going to get fired had they not woke up in the playoffs last year. Give Coach Day credit but it’s still something to be worried about especially after the disaster with Jim Knowles. What works at Ohio St might not work at Penn St. BTW Indiana give him 3 million because they we very confident in what they were getting.
This is probably our next HC if you listen to the Ga Tech people. I’ll take him I believe he’s just 48 and he’s from NJ
I believe the Penn St job is just as good
You have to understand who is setting the narrative there...PennLive hates the Penn State football program and ESPN is the other major outlet setting the narrative and they are in bed with the SEC and ACC so what do you think they are going to put out there for their narrative? Penn State is as good as if not better than any in the country...They will get the coach they choose to hire...
Urban comes in with a 3 year contract with 1 year extensions as HC, Hartline tags in as OC/recruiter/HC in waiting. The rest ??
In today’s game, it’s not about being a Penn State Man, it’s about winning championships and knowing there will be very few long term coaches going forward unless he is racking up top 5 with a championship thrown in q 3 years or so.
@psu61 You are thinking out of the box, and that is a good thing. College football isn't what it was 5 years ago, and it is continuing to evolve. Your multiphase and deliberate evolution plan might be a recipe for success in the current climate.
When you hire Ole Cousin Urbin just go in with your eyes wide open as to what you are getting...I ain't looking for some choir boy hire but just realize what you are getting when you bring this guy in...You better hire a couple of baby sitters and make sure you have a contract with the appropriate out clauses if he goes off the rails...Your idea isn't a bad one Homer...It actually makes sense...Just understand what you are bringing in outside of the football part of it and to a certain extent inside the football part of the program as well...Between the coeds and the whole circle of trust nonsense you have the potential for a disaster...Like I said you better have a couple of baby sitters prepared to keep an eye on him...I believe if the job was offered to him he would jump at the chance and take the job immediately...I also like the Hartline hire as part of the deal as well...Bring him in and make him the heir apparent to take over the program...One thing you can't deny and that is he is a proven winner...He has won everywhere he has coached...I know he was rumored for the Michigan State job so if he would go there he would chomp at the bit to take the helm at Penn State...
LSU has won 3 titles with 3 different coaches in this century. PSU has none.
I am not sure what you guys are looking at when you consider "better job"
Job security? Sure I guess.
