I missed the chat today and although I truly enjoy chatting with all of you during the games I am glad I missed this one...I did catch much of the game and have to say this is the worst loss this program has had in quite some time...I have an idea where Pry's head was and it is a part of the human anatomy where excrement comes from...The DLine did NOT get pushed around but where outmanned...Illinois came out with a 7 man OLine setup and he was still operating with 6 guys in the box...They actually had more lineman than Penn State had up front to block...He NEVER made an adjustment...Truly remarkable...He has got to go...The offensive line is well...OFFENSIVE...They are just terrible and as I feared have cost this team a run at the playoffs...This may be an unpopular opinion but Clifford should have never suited up today...I honestly believe they would have been better off playing one of the healthy backups...If they don't have a healthy backup QB capable of playing then the whole coaching staff needs to be fired...It's the end of October...They have had MONTHS to groom a kid to step in if Clifford gets hurt...Totally unacceptable...It was quite obvious from the start that he wasn't right and quite frankly he shouldn't have been out there...I give the kid credit for being tough and a gamer but he shouldn't have been out there as he just wasn't physically capable today and another week of rest would have done him a world of good...They did the kid no favors...I am sick and tired of watching this offensive line get physically manhandled week in and week out...I was foolishly hoping that this unit would grow and improve and that isn't happening...They need to get somebody in there that can identify and recruit OLine talent and get a line coach in there that can develop the lineman when they get there...I honestly believe that position group cost this team a national title...Pry has to go...The OLine coach has to go...I hate to fire Franklin and see him walk cause he has his best recruiting class coming in...This OLine play needs to be addressed immediately...Today was a disgrace...

I thought they should’ve give Roberson a shot in overtime since we just needed 3 yards to win the game because he can run and I know he can throw better than #44 that just did me in. Roberson would’ve give us a better chance to win because of his feet.

I tend to agree FD. Never been a big Pry fan and yes, you'd think he could figure out how to count opposing line men. Clifford really shouldn't have been out there, he may have looked ok in the 1st quarter, but....

Somewhat agree with you FD - humiliating loss.  We have now had several Oline coaching changes, and OC coaching changes, and the same problem remains - it is either A: The System (RPO), or B: Franklin.  Those are the only 2 unchanged things in this last era of terrible line play.

Doesn't seem like the coaches are even slightly embarrassed. Still get paid regardless of the product they put on the field. Fans still pack the stadium and pay $40 for parking.

Over the past 25 years every single national champion's head coach had won a NC with their team prior to their 8th season. I think it is foolish to say that Franklin is still building this program and just needs more time. Maybe we think it could happen because of how Joe did it, but Joe had a couple undefeated seasons prior to his 8th year.

Man I hope these USC rumors pan out!! You are witnessing what is going to be a typical Penn State season!  Like I always say!

IF NOTHING CHANGES, NOTHING CHANGES!!!

You can't blame today's loss on the Oline, RB's, defense, Clifford and the offense, missed FG and or anything else related to the players/play. It was one thing and one thing ONLY!!!

It is always managements fault but when employees or players don't execute management has to find a way to get them to execute.  So there are two categories that 'Managements Fault' falls into with regard to football:

1) Strategy, play calling, who to play...the X's and O's, player development.

2) The more difficult one is getting people to play, to execute.  This is where you get into recruiting people with heart, unhiring people (Bench), field leadership (other players).  The star rating system does not take into account heart.  But when I watch players not execute it falls under this category.  Problem is you have to be careful with the psychology of benching kids.  This is the 'Jimmies and Joes'.  This is the difficult aspect of leadership/being a coach.  Would Clifford have been hurt to sit yesterday?  I hope not, he should understand it is a team sport and he was not best able to help the team.  Yesterday told Roberson to put his resume on the street.

I'd propose yesterdays problems were both 1 and 2 and while JF seems to be a players coach I just don't feel like they are playing for anyone but themselves.

@underlion  we win that game yesterday if they give Roberson a chance. Illinois backup won the game for them while our dual threat QB who can run good sits on the bench while #44 gets a shot to throw. I just don’t get it and I was calling for Roberson during the game I’m not being a Monday morning QB I was wanting Roberson during OT

I really wonder who made the decision to stay with an injured Cliff in OT.  Do you think it was James or Yurcich?  Whoever it was, what was their reasoning?

@southern-psu-fan I've been telling you guys for years, this college football OT is Mickey Mouse, i.e., placing ball on the 25..Now even worse, putting ball on 3 for two point conversion; I thought I went to Disney world, and back 9 times over yesterday watching that fiasco. And walking up and down, switching end  zones, prove the yahoos running this sport, dont know what end is up, no pun intended..

Call the NFL; talk  to  the NFL execs who know how to run this game very successfully..Adopt the NFL rules, flip the coin , play  a 10 minute max OT period, and play freaking football.. the sport you just played for 60 minutes..This is  worse that the NHL shootout..far worse...

You don't know that. If Roberson played the whole game we might have not even scored enough to be in the overtime situation. He has YET to score a point in a real game!

Like I always say, anything AFTER if or but is BS!!!!!!

I don't know if we win, maybe he throws 3 INTs, maybe the line doesn't block for him, maybe they have 6 off sides in 8 plays.  But not getting any time with Clifford one dimensional is very questionable.  2 weeks to prepare him and he had nothing to give?  Sad commentary.  But what else are you left to interpret?

Lol. So you think a guy who played 3 snaps "won the game" for Illinois?

What about the guy who caught it? Nope... I guess not, lol... just a guy who played for 15 whole seconds is the reason Illinois won.

The point is their QB, as part of the team, executed of the bench cold.  Our 'team' converted a 2 point conversion once in 6 tries.  Our backup QB Practiced for 2 weeks with the 1st team.

Yes he threw the game winner.  No Clifford didn't.  But did one play make the game?  Clearly not.  Kind of like in Baseball the batter that makes the last out lost the game ... because the game is not lost until the final out.

We love to pick a play that lost the game or won the game.  The biggest play may have been not testing our #2 QB.

  • Forward Progress call
  • Missed catch by TE over the middle
  • Missed block by receiver on Dodson catch.
  • Missed block by center on Caine run
  • Missed block by ____ receiver 2
  • Missed interception to end game in OT
  • Missed
  • Missed
  • Missed

Sorry, you're usually always right when it comes to your arguments that guy but he's right this time. It wasn't the QB that won the game it WAS the coaches.

The Illinois backup QB comes off the bench and throws the winning TD pass. That’s what happened in crunch time! What do you do when the game is on the line, you either get it done or you don’t

Michael Jordan missed over 500 game winning shots. Doesn't mean he wasn't the GOAT. It happens.

The Illinois backup also missed his first two passes, big deal. I said he wasn't THE REASON Illinois won the game. One play isn't THE REASON a team wins or loses a game. Penn State played terribly, yet still had a chance to win at the end.

Point blank: Illinois missed a bunch of opportunities to win the game too. That's why I don't look at single plays, it's too easy to say "if this happened we would have won" Yeah, well if the Illinois guy had caught the ball in the endzone they would have won. But he dropped it. There's that too.

You want to put it on one play, but in my opinion that disregards all the awful play the preceded it. As if Brisker is somehow now responsible for us losing, when the DL allowed 300+ rushing yards? Nah...

"You either make plays or you don't" should go for the entire game, not just crunch time. I'd rather say the unit who played terribly for 4 quarters and allowed Illinois to push them around were the reason we lost, not the guy who played well the entire game but dropped one ball.
