I think that it comes from a phase when recruits were teasing with misdirection about which schools they were going to commit to. They would have their announcement pressers with several caps on the table. They'd pick up one cap, then put it down and pick up another and put it on. One guy announced that he would be going to The University of.........Ohio State.
