Somewhat sobering to see this and realize Pry's defenses haven't cracked the Top 3 in any basic statistical category (on average) during his 5 years as DC. It's gotta be scheme and not players, right? It's not like Wisconsin and Iowa are NFL football factories on defense.

Wisconsin and Iowa play time of possession, hold onto the ball type offenses that keep their defenses off the field. They both run the ball a lot, and keep their defenses fresh. It's not a surprise that the defenses on those teams would average well in yards given up. They simply don't see the field as much as PSU's defense.

Since 2016 we haven't really been all that great at time of possession. I believe we were worse than 100 out of all FBS teams in 4 out of the 6 past seasons. That definitly causes issues, and can't be blamed on solely the defense. This past season we did much better in TOP, but our offense was turning the ball over more than usual, and also had trouble scoring which certainly didn't help either.

Last year Parsons sitting out killed us on defense like in the Indiana game I believe Parsons makes that tackle before he scored I believe taking him out of the defense cost us 3 wins he’s that much of a difference maker but the bottom line is we ain’t nasty enough at LB’r and DE from what I seen because we were pretty good up front and our DB’s were really good but I think it’s fair to say losing Parsons caused a lot of problems on defense last year I believe pry will have that fixed this year.

We have another bad year on defense this year I’d say Pry will be gone but like I said losing Parsons was a killer but I still expect to stop Indiana, Maryland, iowa and stinking Nebraska with or without Parsons these are average to garbage teams.

Needing Parsons to win against teams like IN, MD and even NE is pretty sad. Any decent scheme or back should be able to pull that task off. Sorry, JIMO.

Having an offense that scores and doesn't turn it over would have helped too.

@roaminglion

I am going with "What happened in Covid2020 stays in Covid2020! I don't see one good excuse that JF & Co has going into the 2121 season.  I don't expect a National Championship team this year, but if they don't win 9 or 10 games then I am going to question what these guys are doing in Happy Valley!

I'm optimistic.  With our new OC, this could be the year!

For some reason it feels like the O is gonna move the ball this year; who the starting Q will be, IMO, will be the best one on the team. The D, well, IMO its either put up or shut up; I'd think if the D' is a liability, JF is gonna have to make a change. There is just too much money involved at this level especially with a team and brand that PSU brings to the coffers. Just my thoughts.

Nice Catch! LOL.

If we can get SOME fans back in that stadium, it will make a HUGE difference. Some of these kids have never played in front of 100K plus fans.  So going from zero to even 30K or 40K will feel like 100K to some of these of these kids!

I am keeping an open mind, I still like the way they ended 2020,  but I also know who they beat the last 4 games. But I also like the playing time these younger guys got and I think they will be a little more advanced during this Spring practice.  That should make a world of difference for the new coach trying to install a new Offense.

GO STATE!

Like they always say, Your best Defense is a good Offense!  Keep them off the field as much as you can and SCORE points! I am good with Clifford to start, I  think he can be a good QB, but if he doesn't get it done, then pull him!  Time is up!

The feeling I got from last year was teams like Indiana were playing at their absolute ceiling level and we weren't anywhere close to our potential.

I said going in last year I didn’t think it would be a good year, and didn’t really care that much anyway. This year I have a much better feeling for some reason.
