Nebraska is on record saying it is highly unlikely to hold a traditional spring game, mainly because they don't want to give other programs a good look at their players before the April portal opens.
“The word ‘tampering’ doesn't exist anymore, it’s just an absolute free open common market. I don't necessarily want to open up to the outside world. I don't want these guys all being able to watch our guys and say, ‘Wow, he looks like a pretty good player. Let’s go get him.' " - Matt Rhule
There needs to be a 4 week window after the season ends for the portal if it’s possible that would end Matt Rules worries and also fix the Pribula situation. I don’t know all the rules and laws it’s just my opinion as a fan of college football. I like the portal and it’s been good to us the last few years.
Unfortunately that's too late, as kids would miss the start of the spring semester at their new school. There needs to be a 4 week window after the season ends for the portal if it’s possible that would end Matt Rules worries and also fix the Pribula situation. Who cares? I'm sure the players in the portal wouldn't mind. They can be a "late enrolee". With all the jumping around these kids are doing, playing school is pretty far down on their list of priorities, lol!
I'm pretty sure they'd care if they couldn't get into classes because the late enrollee period was over. Meaning they can't practice if they aren't taking classes.Who cares? @roaminglion what about opening the portal a month during the summer. If all the teams are playing by the same rules I’m fine with it. It might be a good thing if the transfer portal is more challenging and it also will keep a lot of players from jumping ship. I’m sure everyone involved would adjust.
I don't really understand how a kid can jump schools and remain eligible considering the difficulty with transferring classes between schools and programs and staying on track. I don't think academics are of any concerns to a lot of football players; it will be interesting to see graduation rates over the next 4 years for incoming freshmen football players vs rates preportal/NIL. And maybe it isn't that much of a difference between then and now?
Until they give up the facade that they're student athletes, they have to be able to attend classes. Maybe they need to have a college league for student athletes that are actual students in pursuant of a degree and a league that made up of semi-pro colleges, for the schools that have kids that don't play no school. Split them up. Not sure I worded that right, but I think you get my drift.
Would it help to start the season a week early and cut out one of the bye weeks and cut the season back to 11 games and give the players 3 weeks after the season is over to get the transfer portal done. Just asking because this seems easy to fix if they want to get it done? Playing these cupcakes I’d rather play ten big 10 games and 1 gimme game because it ain’t like we’re playing a tough OOC schedule anyway or do 11 big 10 games and don’t have a big 10 championship game go back to the old way of conference championships. What happened with Pribula bothers me because we might could’ve beat ND with him on the field.
I’m not sure James Franklin would’ve give him a chance but you never know. Pribula did get benched for throwing a TD pass against Ole Miss that got us back in the game and I’m still smh on that. The sports media up there must be a bunch of wussies not to ask that question. Maybe he did get asked and I missed it but not much gets by me on Penn St football and I was looking to hear the excuse on that brother.
I believe the proposal on the table is to eliminate the current portal windows and make it 1 portal window between January 2-12th. That would be the only time.@roaminglion what about opening the portal a month during the summer. If all the teams are playing by the same rules I’m fine with it. @roaminglion that sounds awesome if it happens. Is it possible to get all the games played by Jan. 2 even if it starts the season a week early and cut out a bye week? Still might be tough

I think it's possible. You can either start 1 week earlier (week 0) is what they call it now and/or get rid of a game and go back to 11 game seasons. Either one would allow cfb yo move the championship games to Thanksgiving. Which would allow the 1st round to be earlier as well.@roaminglion that sounds awesome if it happens. Or just eliminate the conference championships... however that's a bit harder with the huge conferences now.
Any of these would move the semifinals to new years and the final game around the 9th giving everyone a chance to enter the portal. The only players with a short window would be the championship game, but they'd still have a few days after the game.
I’ll be glad when all the players are getting paid that way if a team doesn’t make the playoffs which is most of them the bowl games will become relevant again because the players are getting paid to play. I’m beginning to think there’s advantages if the players are being paid. Paying the players will definitely help the bowl season.
