During Franklins tenure at PSU he is 2-14 vs top ten teams and 11-18 against the top 25.

Since 2017 Franklin and PSU are 0-9 vs top ten teams

Record of 22-13 since Mcsorley and Barkley left.

While at PSU Franklin is 1-7 vs OSU (soon to be 1-8)

While at PSU Franklin is 3-6 vs Meatchicken

While at PSU Franklin is 3-5 vs Meatchicken State

He would have been fired by now at any other school with national championship aspirations which is something that I'm no longer sure PSU even is.

I like James Franklin as much as anybody but how in the fudge to you give him a 10 year 100 million dollar contract? Who does something that stupid. I never thought he’d done anything to get a new contact but I did say he deserved another year.

Don't forget, Roam.  Our esteemed Board of Trustees had to approve it.  Another in a long line of major screw ups by this spineless group of clowns.

I also read that his buyout this year is over $70 million, $60 next year and still over $50 in year 5. Franklin has this program handcuffed and there’s nothing that can be done about it.

Yes there is.  Hire Ruhl and let him run the team.  Keep Jimmy with his same salary & title, but limit him to recruting & cheerleader duties.  I bet he gets the message and leaves on his own as soon as he can find somebody to take him!

@psu61  watch out now 61, when George O’LEARY was at GT, UCF and Baylor he kicked some serious butt baby. I was going to say something else and I got to thinking how great he did at these 3 schools. Dang, George O’Leary was a great coach when you look at his track record. He took over garbage at every team he went to and made VERY good even when he was a DC. I miss George O’LEARY at GT 😂 dang man I’m starting to cry 😂…just get the right coach is what I’m saying and it will work.

Not sure I agree on O'Leary, he was an average coach. UCF was a 7-5 football team 2 years before he showed up, so they weren't exactly garbage. He did well at UCF, but nothing truly "great". He was ranked twice in 11 years there. Not tremendous stuff.

As for his stint at GT, He won 7 games or less 4 out of 8 years, and never won the conference once. He did "tie" for the ACC conference in 1998 with FSU, but really a technicality considering FSU beat them 34-7 that year.

I just don't see where he "kicked serious butt"

@roaminglion  GT was 1–10 when he got on campus and Florida St was dominating college football while he was there and he beat Georgia 5 times if I remember correctly. Putting things in perspective

He was 3-5 vs Georgia and he was part of the coaching staff that went 1-10. He didn't inhert that team, he was the Defensive Coordinator OF THAT TEAM. They were also 4 years removed from a national title, so again not exactly a garbage job with zero to work with.

O'Leary won the Bobby Dodd National Coach of the year in 2000 and the ACC Coach of the Year Award in 1998 and 2000. During his seven-year stint at Georgia Tech, O'Leary guided the Yellow Jackets to a 52–33 (. 612) record, including five bowl appearances.

I can’t type as good as you can so I’m copying what I’m seeing. I’m not saying he’s Nick Saban

He was at the chargers with Bobby Ross when they went to the super bowl I believe he was the DC or DL coach I can’t remember and that was in 93. I thought he come to GT in 1994 so it wasn’t his team it was Bill Lewis team. Bill Lewis was garbage just like Geoff Collins maybe worse.

If 52-33 is considered good at your school, your school isn't a Big Dawg. That's just unaccebtable at most places that want a winning program.

Heck, Bo Pilini was 66-27 at Nebraska and everyone said he was a failure. Certainly no one said he was kicking butt.

@roaminglion Bill Lewis destroyed the football program and O’Leary had to rebuild it and he did. The goal is always to win the NC at GT and especially at Penn St…period.

I didn't say he was a terrible coach, but he didn't "kick serious butt" either.

@roaminglion   He was a great coach and taking over a team that was 1-10 and competing for ACC championships is very hard to do at Ga Tech but it can be done it just takes a damn good coach to do it. Then he did it at UFC. George O’Leary done more at Ga Tech and UCF than Nick Saban did at Michigan St and Saban did an incredible job at Michigan St because he also took over a dumpster. When I say a coach is great I also look what did they take over and both jobs O’Leary took over were not good football teams and Ga Tech was garbage.

A previous AD took really good care of Franklin.  Made sure he had all the bell and whistles before retirement. The fans are the ones who pay for these messes in the long run.

"O’Leary done more at Ga Tech and UCF than Nick Saban did at Michigan St"

GT had won a national title 4 years prior to O'Leary, Michigan State hadn't won a NC since 1966. Stop acting like 1-10 was the norm at GT up to that point, rather than an aberration. Some of the same kids that won the title were on the same team he took over, and you keep saying the program was complete garbage. He did a good job, I'm not saying he didn't. But he didn't exactly turn GT into a powerhouse either.

O'leary wasn't great, and I'm not saying he's bad either. He did well, but come on man he wasn't some messiah amazing coach like you're saying.

He was the DC and DL coach under Bobby Ross when they won the NC and their defense was brutal.

Has to be one of the only coaches to never win a major conference outright and be considered "great".

Maybe I just don't have it in me, as I still remember his own players at UCF testifying that he denied water and didn't let anyone help a player at practice... who later died. A court and jury held the UCF athletic department responsible for it.
