The rumor floating around is broken ribs. If true his season is over. Ribs take a long time to heal. Not much they can do for broken ribs. All I know is multiple x-rays are the protocol to make sure they are aligned and healing properly.  That really sucks.  I truly hope he is OK.

Man I hope that’s not the case. I guess the bottom line is iowa got to our QB and we didn’t get to theirs. Hope Clifford gets healthy but broken ribs is very painful his health comes first. If Clifford can’t go it’s going to be a dawg fight every game and our defense better start getting to the QB and putting him on his back.

Broken ribs is not necessarily season ending, it depends on what the nature and extent is.

"Broken" is used for hairline fractures and complete breaks. Wait and see

As a person who has had broken ribs, I feel it is unlikely. Couple of reasons, 1 if your ribs are broken, you move VERY gingerly. Even breathing hurts especially deep breaths. You tend to walk very erect/stiff as any movement hurts like hell especially bending over. Almost any movement makes you wince in pain. He seemed to be moving around pretty normal on the sidelines. In fact I saw him moving pretty quickly which is why I don't think he has broken ribs.

Now maybe he has bruised ribs, they still hurt but not near as bad as broken ribs. I've had broken ribs once, fractured ribs once as well as bruised ribs. They all suck and hurt but the broken ribs hurt the worst and were the longest to heal. We shall see, time will tell.

It had to be significant if the medical team kept him out of the game.

Come on guys; This has the makings for a dream season where as, before each game, the 'Cincinnati Kid' will take 4 Ibuprofens, a shot of whiskey, pad up and play ball and in doing so, lead the team to the Championship game against GA. Go Kid, go State!.

Regardless of the seriousness of the rib injury, he won't be 100% if allowed to go. Every sack, every hit, every threat of a hit will affect his performance and you know defenses know that. We all know Clifford is tough and can lead his team to success but limitations are to be expected. All that said, this team and fan base must rally and rise to the occasion. The OL must run block better, backs and TQ execute better, D continue what they do, coaching staff make adjustments and fan base show patience. Sounds sappy and Captain Obvious right? I think there is something special about this team and it will be interesting to see how they (and we ) respond.

Go State!!

I've been there. I know how painful it is. I would not wish it upon anyone.  They would need to do a CT scan to determine if broken ribs are the case. I assume they don't have x rays in the locker rooms.  He was on the field in 2nd half,  so maybe it isn't season ending.  Again,  hope the kid is OK.

As head coach I would be very cautious of letting him play Even if it is just minor hairline fractures. If the medical doctor told me it's ok to play your QB I would still sit him out.

IMO, from watching him on the sidelines laughing, taking, moving etc he did not seem to be in a bad broken rib condition.   I guess he will be less mobile with one of those flack jackets protecting him.  Like someone said, bad broken ribs hurt to cough, laugh and God forbid it is allergy season and you have to sneeze.

What is the point of having medical experts if you ignore them?

Not sure if I believe it but I just heard on the radio that he has a fractured vertebrae which would obviously be season ending. But would he have been standing on the sideline in the 2nd half if that was the case?

If Clifford has a definitive season ending injury, we will find out during Tuesday's presser. If there's no update on Clifford's status, or just a vague one, he's probably coming back at some point but I doubt Franklin would say when.

As far as fractured ribs are concerned it depends on which ribs are fractured...If they are the posterior ribs that are towards the rear known as the floating ribs and connected to the spine he is going to be out for a while and it isn't going to be safe for him to play...If he fractured what they call the true ribs or anterior ribs depending on the severity of the fracture and as long as there wasn't a lung puncture involved he should be able to give it a go...They can give him injections for pain tolerance and he should be able to play but when that shot wears off he is going to be in delirious pain for a day or 2 following the game...This is really a difficult injury to project because of the variations involved...If it is a spinal fracture he is going to probably miss the season...This is a bye week so I don't anticipate any information on this injury until the following week...Rib injuries can go many different ways and we all have to hope this is one that goes Penn State's way...

As he is walking to the locker room he has his right arm oddly pushing on his right lower mid back.  I said in the chat it could be back but ribs are always more probable.  It was just the only clue I saw.  I suppose there are lower ribs in that area but Alas I didn't take Anatomy and Physiology nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn Express.  No orthopedic on our board?  They can be 'arm chair quarterbacks' also.  How about a sports medicine guy?

I'm well versed in Klingon physiology but sadly lack knowledge in our own species.

My wife was watching the game, and is a trauma surgeon. She said there's really no way to know at the moment from what she saw, but did state that if it was a spinal injury it wasn't smart to have him on the sidelines at all. At that point he should have been stabilized, but it's tough to tell what they knew/didn't know at the time.

Here is what I am hoping.  Cliffords injury was minor, JF pulled him, over estimated Roberson and relied too heavily on the defense.  I AM OK WITH THIS IF THIS IS THE CASE!  Like I keep saying, Penn State's road to the playoffs is still through Columbus. Clifford made a mistake early and NEVER blinked! I am not even disappointed in Roberson. Good grief, he got thrown to the wolves out of nowhere! The kid had no dream of playing Saturday and then all heck broke loose.  I guarantee you if he had two weeks to prepare, NOT 2 quarters, he would have done a lot better.  Just too many distractions like backed up against goal line, receivers dropping easy passes, Oline jumping offsides because the coaches didn't change from a clapping signal to the right guard signaling the center to snap....just to name a few.

I don't know if Roberson is capable of beating Ohio State, but with two weeks to practice, and then Illinois for some additional experience, who knows.  I would say he grew up quickly against Iowa!!! That game could just be what he needed. Ohio States defense will not be like what he faced against Iowa....at least I don't think so.

I just hope Clifford is good to go. He would have hung 30 plus points on the Hawkeyes had he not got injured.

GO STATE!!! GO ROBERSON!!!!

I sincerely hope James pulled Clifford for a justified medical reason and not for a "minor" injury that he was capable of playing through.  Otherwise, he sold Cliff, the D and the rest of the team down the river and really did Roberson wrong.

I saw where a sportswriter is claiming that Cliff had some type of arm injury.  Said he saw a wrap on his arm when he was on the sideline in the 2nd half.  I missed it.  If that is the case, hopefully it's not season ending.
