With all the talk of Allar being benched (which I don’t mind/ don't care) one thing I think needs to be said about another coaches decision of who to play:
WTF is Allen not starting or playing more than Singleton? He is 100% the better running back.
I believe Kaytron will assume the duties on 1st and 2nd downs going forward if they decide to make offensive adjustments. Singleton has started because of the RPO. He has a pass catching advantage over Katron and they’ve been trying to force to the homerun shot with Singleton. Allar cannot run RPO, Kaytron gives you the best advantage to continually give you 3rd and shorts or outright pick up 1st downs. The only issue is Kaytrons conditioning, we haven’t seen him continuously take carry after carry without switching out with singleton. He’s a much heavier, rumbling down field type back. UCLA and NW are basically washes, starting at Iowa, OSU and IU Kaytron needs to be getting close to 20 carries.
Allen will be fine with an increased work load. He's lost some weight & there should be no concerns with conditioning. I've always said, if I were choosing up sides, I'd pick Allen before Singleton every time.
I agree Allen should be the #1 back. There’s speculation that Singleton has had some type of medical issue that has not been announced.
Completely agree with your assessment. Singleton is a 3rd down back in a every down body. Much better in the passing game, but Allen sees the field better and sets up blocks with more patienceI believe Kaytron will assume the duties on 1st and 2nd downs going forward if they decide to make offensive adjustments. Singleton has had the reputation of being explosive but when was the last time he actually had an explosive long run? Or broke into the open and then out ran opposing players for a TD?
