Well Nits, I've been screaming for it almost since Franklin got here ... but look what happens when you put a quality running back in the I formation !!! Don't want to sound like a broken record but wow was it fun to see again.
And how 'bout the Oline blocking. Best I've seen in quite a few years.
We are on a roller coaster. We go from no backs and no line to awsome rb's and a great line in one week. I suppose on average we have played a tougher 1st three games than most. This is the first game we have showed a running game. Maybe an average running game last week against a MAC team. But we didn't expect it against Auburn.
Might the Auburn D have gotten tired or did they quit?
@underlion they were getting pounded on so they probably were tired I don’t think they quit.
234 yards rushing is average?
Can't figure out which thread we were talking Franklin insisting on running against Auburn, but he did & they sure did! DVR'd the game, will watch it w/ my kid tomorrow, but I did cheat and look at the final score. NICE!

But it’s wasn’t just run run run to prove we can do it, it was a good mix of run and pass. You’ll see later today.
Singleton has strength and jets and that really became obvious yesterday, wow!; Allen is a punishing runner, I really like that kid; and Lee is a horse that can make way with speed for his size. Very nice group of backs. I said also prior to the game, put the QB under center and run out of the I; you can see it working. Now, that was one game but a damn good indicator of what can be if it's let to be.
And the D'line; damn they showed up! But that prevent D, I just don't know about that one.
Man the defense got after the QB yesterday. That looked like the defense under the goat Mr 409 baby
That looked like a Diaz defense. He gave Auburn a lot of different looks and backed out of defensive sets a lot.
They got after the QB yesterday buddy we just gotta get off the field on 3rd downs. It was still a great day for the defense.
The defense gave up a lot of yards but not many points, mostly because of 4 Auburn Turnovers. The middle of the field seemed open when we were playing a soft zone.
We did get pressure on the QB, 4 sacks? But numerous throw aways and an intentional groundihhgbbthat wasn't called. I seem to remember a good edge speed rush. But I also have to think the coverage was pretty good of the Auburn QB was a bit slow making decisions. Maybe we confused him some.
Looks like we finally established the run game. Now we have to establish the stop 'em on 3rd & long game, lol.
That Oline blocking gave me a 409 flashback.
Moderation
We were not as bad as we thought but after 1 game we are not as good either. But we do have something good.....HOPE.
Maybe 2? CHANGE
I claim that line.
And the boys have confidence and it's growing. IMO it all started at the end of the Purdue game when the offense drove for the winning TD and the defense came through with stops when they were needed. That was the spark, Ohio fanned the fire and it burst into flame at Auburn!
I wanna see a big dose of freshman on Saturday

As always, see link. Delved into Penn State's philosophical switch from predominantly zone scheme rushing attack to an even mix of zone and gap scheme run this season...gap scheme concepts like DUO. We'll do a long DUO tutorial in the future but I was curious if these second-level RB reads in gap schemes like DUO are easier for young RBs than the first-level DT or DE reads in inside and outside zone...so I asked him after he sent and he said "No, not really." Codutti said the move to things like DUO make for easier double teams for linemen to execute than double teams in zone. So it's tailored to aid the OL more than the young RBs.

Maybe the defense wasn't quality. Purdue, Auburn, a team that lost to Syracuse. Ohio bobcats. This can be justified on October 15th.
After watching a couple of the analysts doing video reviews I suspect that Auburn thought they could stop our run with the line and a nickle package. They schemed to stop the pass and thought our run would not be an issue. We were successful running against it and it tired the defense out. TOP was relatively even, even with the turnovers.
You might say bad coaching by Auburn? We would complain about PSU coaching and half time adjustments 😎 😎
@underlion Teams better get use to the Penn St run game because it’s back. We have 2 stud RB’s that’s hits the holes quick and if there’s an opening off to the races baby because they are fast. Nothing tricky about last week, we lined up and kicked Auburns butt and done it on the road a place where even the Tide struggles to win. 3-0 baby
Yep, we finally established the run game. Now that that monkey is off Jimmy's back, let Yurcich call his game and just win baby!
