Interesting ranking I stumbled upon on the 247 site. It is called "College Football Team Talent Index". It's basically a composite of each team's roster talent based kn their recruiting. For the last three years, our ranking has been 20 in 2016, 19 in 2017, and 12 this year. To me this means we've out performed our recruiting ever since that Michigan loss in 2016 (Where we had no LBs). We are 24-4 since, a look at who we've lost to:
USC in 2016 - #2 in roster talent that year
OSU in 2017 - #2 in roster talent that year
MSU in 2017 - #30 in roster talent that year
OSU in 2018 - #1 in roster talent that year
Obviously there is more to a team than raw talent, but I think this shows Franklin obviously knows how to get a lot out of his players. We have also steadily moved up the rankings in talent as well. Not bad that 3 of our 4 losses are to the #1 or #2 team in overall talent that year. By 1, 3, & 1 points. The other was a rain delay game, after a rough loss, to a coach (Dantonio) who routinely gets more out of his roster than most other coaches. He is a good coach.
I am not saying anything other than this: IMO Franklin has done a great job with the llayers he has, while also getting even better players to come in for the future. Yes, some play calling has been suspect at times but overall he has been great. To his point the other day, if he can clean up some end of game issues... The sky is the limit. Pretty much everything else has been exactly what you want in a coach, and personally I think his late game management will get better and this team will continue to improve.
Do you remember the 1979 Sugar bowl where JP ran 4 up the gut and we were stopped each time?? He took a lot of heat for that too but he owned it and in 1982, we were national champions. You're right, good coaches learn from their mistakes and move on. I think JF is a good coach and I think we're close to being an elite team. We'll get a lot of questions answered on Saturday.
Will be in the top 3-5 in two years if the next two recruiting classes end up where some are projecting. I've already seen predictions that our 2020 class could be PSU's best ever and possibly the best in the country.
Everything is going well.
Any chance Julian Flemming changes his mind ? He did commit to Georgia which really surprised me. However, Franklin is after him bigtime.
showing your lack of football knowledge nicky....Fleming didn't commit to Ga...lol....you're such an idiot. Matter of fact he'll be at Beaver Stadium tomorrow....again...
Glad to see you following me around Murry. According to the fans of SCA on the sidelines , hes going to Georgia, loves it there. Having and operating your own website isn't the best way to get the real inside information. Besides, all recruits go to college games. Hes visiting beaver stadium? Wow, that's some hi tech information. I know lots of fans from SCA. I work with die hard SCA fans .
Snakeoil, you did say he was committed and that is a wrong statement.
Y’all have heard me say many times James Franklin has been coaching with one hand tied behind his back since he became a HC. Regardless of anything when Vanderbilt beats Georgia Tennessee and Florida in the same year it ain’t nothing but great coaching. Takes over penn st under death penalty sanctions and has found a way to have winning seasons every year and won the big 10 conference and won the fiesta bowl lol. The man is just that dang good. One thing he does is finds QB’s that don’t beat him, Vanderbilt’s QB was a solid QB and then he found McSorely that followed him to penn st. Had Hack not been a turnover machine we’d won 10 games in 2015 but playing with walk-ons and players recruited under death penalty sanctions it’s unbelievable we won 7 games in 2014 and 2015. Great day s are here brother!
Amen Southern...
And I will never forget how you called your shot with McSorley. You said he'd be a great one and you were 100% right.
I had some help from mb with McSorely I just screamed a little louder than he did lol. But when me navylion and ncnitt watched him carve up Georgia we all knew we had something in McSorely. I think Georgia had the #7 defense in the country that year if I remember right.
Well all of you were on the money!
Well, there's an unbiased source for information! Anyone with half a brain would call it just "wishful thinking! But then there is you!
Your support of TM was unwavering from the very beginning. Hats off to you for being patient while the rest of us caught up.
Got that right Brother! I think that is the first time I ever watched my team lose and walked away excited! We we got to see things beyond the camera lens by being there. I was amazed how that kid single handedly changed the whole attitude in that stadium. Ga and their fans and the team looked shocked and were quiet and worried and the PSU faithful as well as the team were totally pumped up! It was awesome!
