Today, January 22nd marks 10 years since JoePa left us. Wonder what he's thinking as he looks down on the state of college football tpday.
I'll bet Joe, Bobby B and the Bear are enjoying themselves reminiscing about the good old days. RIP JoePa!
I really miss the old man. I loved watching his weekly press conferences. It always amazed me when the reporters would ask stupid questions and get owned by Joe. So many memories. I remember Joe holding the face mask of a defensive player, who was twice his size, and yelling at him for making a hit out of bounds. He totally crack me up once, when after a touchdown dance by one of our players, Joe did the same dance to show the player what he looked like. I think I may have fallen off the couch laughing on seeing that. Then there was the time Joe chased a ref down after a game to complain about the reffing during the game. That was right before instant replay came into the Big Ten. Coincidence, I think not.
My all time favorite interaction between JoePa and a reporter was the exchange he had with Erin Andrews after beating Bobby Bowden and Florida State in the 2006 Orange Bowl (Lions won 26-23 in 3 OT's). Kevin Kelly kicked the game winning 29 yd field goal. Andrews asked Joe what he said to Kelly before sending him out to attempt the FG. Joe kinda shrugged his shoulders, smiled and said "Don't miss!". Then she asked him if he was praying on the sidelines as the kick went up. Joe relied, "Nah. I figure God has more important things to worry about than who wins a football game." Classic JoePa! God I miss the guy.Â
@psugrad81  That dance was in the Virginia game in the early 2000’s lol
my favorite quote was after the Illinois game in 2012 when he told the reporter are you going to write what I say or write what you want to write lol
Sure brings a tear to my eye Southern! Rolled up pants, white sweat sox, Nikes.... can't miss who they belong to. Remember the Khaki pants with the little blue whales?Â
Great stories Grad81, Bob and Southern. Thanks for sharing them, it put a smlile on my face.
