Some scientists,  doctors are claiming this is here forever.  Claiming that this is the NEW FLU in America. No long term guarantees on the vaccine.  My question, is this the new norm of life in America? Wear masks everywhere you go, struggle to find toilet paper,  have school online,  wait in line outside shopping centers because of occupancy restrictions,  work from home remotely,  don't have any sports, close down restaurants.  Apparently,  some countries are having sports. If that's the case, someone really fumbled the football on this one. If you are watching the news the new idea is to have a complete 6 month economic lockdown.  We are on the brink of major economic collapse.

I think that's a bit of apocalyptic rhetoric. I do not believe that we will be where we are at next year, I firmly think once a vaccine is in place (and I do think there will be one) things will return to normal.

I sure hope so. People are going insane.

Curious you think that, since there has never been a vaccine created that cures viruses.

Not sure that is where Roam was heading.  A Vaccine will put people more at ease and HOPEFULLY, slow the spread.  Anyone who thinks this thing is going away once a vaccine is approved is smoking weed.  This bad boy is going to be around for awhile, so how we navigate the next few years will be key. Not only do we need a vaccine, we need drugs too!  Drugs that will reduce the recovery time and hopefully keep the symptoms to a low level.....allowing a quicker recovery time and less critical care.

The way I see it from my chair, we need another 6 months of data before they are going to have any sort of direction. I think it will come down to the Fall flue season.  If they can navigate through THAT, then I think they will be able to get this under control and hopefully we can start living normal lives again.  The vaccine, if it works, should help slow the spread and keep folks from getting sicker than they are now.

You're right Bob, we might as well just scrap the vaccine. I mean, it's not like a vaccine ever did anything like eradicate Polio or Smallpox from this country.

Oh wait...

That said, I wasn't saying the coronavirus will magically disappear once a vaccine shows up. I'm saying that people will go out and get the vaccine and the extra protection against getting the virus it provides will help life turn back to normal. This is exactly what vaccines for the flu, measles, mumps, and rubella do... those diseases are still around, but the vaccine provides an ample protection against them... so we really don't have to worry about those diseases anymore except in rare cases.

I guess I get too caught up in semantics, rather than the larger picture.  Albeit some of those diseases you listed are not viruses, and the flu shot technically is not a vaccine, although some treat it as though it is.  I just think the aura that has been created that this magical vaccine will soon be arriving is just a pipe dream.

Not sure what you are talking about?

Measles = Measles morbillivirus
Mumps = Mumps orthorubulavirus
Rubella = Rubella virus
Smallpox = Variola Virus
Polio = Poliovirus

And yes, technically the Flu shot is a vaccine, why do you think it's not? The term vaccine doesn't mean it gives immunity forever, even something that provides short term immunity (yearly) is still a vaccine.

Not sure where you got your information.
