Before getting in to the meat of my thoughts, a few things:
I very much appreciate this forum and give hearty thanks to Caven for all his time and effort to make it work. I couldn’t do what he did and this place feels like home to me.
My wife’s coffee was especially good this morning...oh, that’s right, I made it.
Signing day: Penn State still managed a top 5 spot despite losing 2 “for sure” recruits like Isheem Young for his off field indesretions and Butts allegedly not academically qualifying. Where would the Lions rank with the addition of these 2 prospects? Was anybody surprised how and why Michigan tanked? I thought Harbaugh was the great recruiter. ND seemed to have a below average year as well. Is Georgia going to be the new Alabama? What a haul!
Thoughts?
Another thought that came late...time will tell but the 2 star Pinegar might well be as impactful as 5 stars Parsons, Slade and Shorter.
I am satisfied with this class. Filled need at LB and premier group of WR recruits. Agree with analysis of kicker. How do you rate a kicker? Is it percentage of FG/XP made? Distance of FG attempt? Number of kickoffs returned? Arguably because kicking is essentially measurable it would be less subjective than rating an offense of lineman. But the question is what measurables go into the rating equation?
As far as Young, he may get a few gifts from the prosecutors, which could impact his availability. If so, what schools will offer? Does he go the JUCO route and try next year?
Not sure why Harbaugh wasn't that successful with recruiting this year compared to prior years. ND? Doesn't matter how well they recruit, they will somehow fail to develop the talent.
My post 2018 thought is what is wrong with 2019 recruiting? The class so far has two verbals and as far as I can tell there isn't any others close to committing. It seems like we're playing from behind because we came in late on some big time recruits and have hardly offered anyone from PA which is a mistake IMO. Is it because of the coaching staff changes or complacency?
