@lionbacker99 Sad to hear about your cousin 99. Hopefully '22 will be better.
May he rest in peace, 99. Best wishes for a better 2022.
Thanks guys. I appreciate it. Unfortunately, his death stirred up some old unresolved family dynamic issues which made the situation all that more difficult. Add in some new developments within my own house recently and I’m pretty much exhausted with 2021. Again, it could always be worse. Have a good New Year everyone!
Sorry to hear about your loss 99 - thoughts and prayers are with ya! On the bowl front - even if the NCAA decides on a 16 team playoff series, I can still see a "want" for bowl games. Just as basketball has the NIT - maybe a 2nd tier grouping of 16 could compete, using existing bowl game sites for the games. The top 16 teams, I would prefer the higher ranked teams getting a Home game out of this - and then maybe once it's down to 8 teams, utilize a bowl game site for a neutral field.
I see a lot of people comparing basketball to football. I think there is a reason the NBA plays 82 games while the NFL plays 17.
Playing an NIT in basketball is very different from expecting football players to be excited about playing a possible 4 more meaningless games tournament style.
It's funny that fans always complained about too many bowls, and now we are complaining about players opting out of them like they matter.
A media cartel bankrolls a fraudulent invitational tournament and sells it as a “playoff” and people fell in line to support it, I said it would destroy college football 8 years ago and it has. Players opting out proves there is too many bowls and they have become meaningless and there's nothing funny about any of it. I wonder if you'll think it's acceptable once players start opting out mid season on teams that are 2-5, 1-6 etc because the way things are going it's only a matter of time.

@psujoe Players have already done that, DeAndre King of Houston sat out the rest of the season (used a redshirt year due to the new 4 game rule) then transferred to Miami.
Nothing new, and it doesn't seem many other players followed suit. Most players actually spoke out about it as not acceptable
Most of the players want to play in the bowl games it’s just the future NFL players that don’t. All teams are playing by the same rules that’s why it doesn’t bother me as bad. Need to be 2 or 3 deep just in case it’s just becoming part of the game.

Fans are going to the bowl games to see those "future NFL players" play for their school one last time and as those players continue to opt out I suspect a good percentage of fans will too. The Peach Bowl is supposed to be one of the biggies this year and it's being played right now in a half full stadium.

@psujoe the NFL should help come up with something to help because anything that hurts college football will eventually hurt the NFL. 16 team playoff system is probably the best thing that would be 32 teams in the playoffs. It’s time to do a top 32 poll homer lol
Pitt beating up on Michigan St with a backup QB in. My cable is out keeping up with game on ESPN on my phone. Pitt Down to 3rd string QB? 21-10

I figured it was over at that point and stopped paying attention and sPitt ends up losing 31-21.

The Peach Bowl is "supposed" to be a big one, but was played by a 4th place Big Ten team vs. an ACC champ that lost to Western Michigan.
@roaminglion it was a fair game both teams lost 2 games. Would’ve been cool had Penn St played Pitt in Atlanta that would’ve been a sellout.

A match up ruined by opt outs.

Not really. We are talking about Pitt and Sparty here, not Bama, Clemson, Ohio St, USC, ND, PSU, Michigan, UGA or any other blue blood. Pitt can’t even sell out their own games at Heinz Field, how do you expect them to sell a respectable amount of tickets for a bowl game?
You really do get one idea in your head and beat it to death without considering any other perspective.

LMAO Pickett was the big draw for sPitt and he opted out. As did the big draw for MSU. To think that that had no impact on the attendance is idiocy. It is also idiocy to think that Tennessee playing in a bowl game in it's home state also doesn't have an effect.

LOL. If Pickett was the big draw then why were there so many empty yellow seats at Pitt home games? They have a long tradition of poor attendance. To think they were going to fill a stadium in GA is not being realistic.
You can beat the opt out drum all you want but that won’t make a lick of difference because I highly doubt they are influenced by it. If you are that bothered by it, stop watching the games and stop complaining endlessly about it.

Here’s Pitt’s season recap. If you click on the + next to box score, you can see attendance for every game. Their highest attended game was vs Clemson and they had around 60,000. That’s 50,000 less than show up every year for Penn State’s marquee home game. Keep in mind they play in a 68,400 seat Heinz Field. They couldn’t even sell it out for the biggest game on their schedule. Their home opener they sold 41,000 tickets. The ACC Championship vs Wake Forest in NC only had 57,000. There weren’t any opt outs in that game. Bottom line is opt outs probably had very little to do with the attendance in the Peach Bowl. Pitt fans don’t pay to buy tickets to go to their games. Other games may have been affected by opt outs, maybe? But not the Peach Bowl. On top of that, is the Peach Bowl really a big bowl game? NY6 Bowl games that aren’t played on New Years tell you all you need to know.
@lionbacker99 Right because a NY6 Bowl Game couldn't possibly be effected by a Heisman Trophy finalist opting out !!
