Lets stop acting like this is a gimme game because it isn’t they played in the ACC championship last year and they’re good enough to beat your butt if you’re not ready to play. The year Clemson won the NC Pitt beat them at Clemson plus they beat the big 10 champ that year which was us. It’s also a rivalry game and it’s their Super Bowl when they play us. I watched a few teams yesterday and most teams I watched struggled to win and some good ranked teams didn’t win, we won. It’s still VERY early and the coaches see the problems and I’m very confident they’ll get it fixed. We’re not going to blow every team out especially teams like Pitt because they’re trying to win the game just as bad as we are. I ain’t got excuses I’m just telling ya it’s football and the other teams are trying to win and we ain’t going to win every game 51-6. Ole southern will take a 6-3 win as long as we win. I think everybody including some coaches around the country want to win big every week because of the CFP committee shite that we have going on and when you don’t win by 35 points you get worried and you think something is wrong. Be satisfied with just winning because I’m telling ya USC wish they would’ve won even if it’s just by one point.
Good post southern, my sentiments exactly. PSU secondary may not have played their perfect game and the OL clearly has some work to do but let no one forget that this WAS a rivalry game for Pitt and they came to play. Give Narduzzi credit for a good game. Pickett and his receivers were excellent especially in Q2. His guys are a star or 2 lighter than Franklin’s players but they didn’t play like it yesterday. I think it’s time for me ( I will only speak for me) to put the fire out in my hair, hope our guys watch plenty of film, work really hard on the practice field for the next 2 weeks and totally destroy Maryland.
Thanks for putting things in perspective Southern & Lake. We (especially myself!) want every game to be a blow out, but in today's college football landscape, it ain't gonna happen. I'm vowing to stop worrying about the score and just being happy with a W. I'm not gonna worry about the scam committee. They'll do what they want anyway and just rationalize to justify it.
Greetings Gents...I agree with you that a win is a win. Take the win be happy and move along. Only 2 issues I have is the OLine and lack a pass rush by the front 4. You win games up front. Right now the OLine can't black a lawn chair. This keeps up Clifford won't make it through the season and Levis may not make it to the end once Clifford goes down. The QB is taking a beating and running for his life every play. The front 4 on defense can't get to the QB without blitz help. In the modern college football landscape you need to score pts. to win. Right now we aren't doing that. Time will tell but count me in the concerned column.
I agree with your concerns, FD. If the areas you mentioned aren't cleaned up, sooner or later the W will be a L. That's why I've vowed to enjoy the W's when they come and leave the concerns to the coaches.
From what I saw yesterday, we have a long way to go......and that's ok. Our OL isnt what we all thought it would be. We can point our finger at caoching, talent, whatever. The thing is, they have no swagger. If you could have seen how they carried themselves before and after plays, you'd know what I mean. On Defense, once again we have a propensity to make average QB's look like Heisman winners. Our secondary was supposed to be a strong point but we had major let-downs on third and long. Thankfully, Pitt's HC took a page out of Franklin's book with that bonehead call by going for a FG down at our goal line. Incidentally, did anyone see the favorable spot they gave Pitt after the TFL on 3rd down??
Too bad it wasn't a night game, then the officials could have done a light's out job off calling the game.... as in they couldn't have been much worse with the lights out.
I did see a road kill black bear on the way home on Rt 15 near Mansfield. 1st one of them I've seen since I moved out of state.
North of Mansfield or South of Mansfield?? The old man has land and a cabin up that way. North of Wellsboro in fact.
With a week off to prepare for Maryland, that game will be the litmus test IMHO. I’m not looking for a blowout against Maryland, just a W on a big conference game... like bonk says, just looking for a win.
Yes
@bulldawgs
It was just south of the Mansfield exit.

The O-line is a bigger concern to me than any other unit on this squad... It's the weakest point of the team and will need to get better or will be the downfall of the team this year.
As far as our pass rush I'm less concerned... Pitt had a very good game plan to get the ball out quickly, under 3 seconds most of the time. A few more seconds and there would have been some sacks
The only other thing that chapped my ass was the multitude of 3rd and 10 yard+ conversions by PITT. This cannot happen at that rate.
A win is a win and with that plenty to work on now get it done.
