I read where the NCAA has decided to make a new rule to eliminate the "fake slide" that Kenny employed against Wake Forest the other week. I agree that needed to be looked at ... but the speed in which this rule took effect caught my eye just as much.
I don’t believe we need anymore rules, if the QB takes off and runs he becomes a RB that way we keep the refs out of the game as much as possible?
@Southern
Had to Google Dobler. He is definitely on the list of guys who could not play today. His post football life is a sad story.
I don't really understand the rule change, as the rule is the ball is placed where the runner initiates the slide. If he initiated a slide, even if it's a fake, that should be down where he initiated the movement. Why is that not the case? Initiate doesn't mean complete, so an aborted slide should be treated the same way.
Also, to answer Southern's statement: All runners are allowed to slide, it's not just a rule for QBs
Pickett said it best, he "changed the game". A player who "changed the game" should have won the Heismann.

The play should have been whistled dead as soon as he started to give himself up. If what he did was legal then they need to also make hitting the QB legal when he does slide.

IMO, the consistent fix is, QB is a running back once he breaks outside the tackle box and the ball is in his possession. There is a real advantage when you can run the ball without the threat of being creamed; hell you even see that is backyard football games; all kids wanna be a running back until they get hit hard, lol. I remember as a kid playing backyard "smear the queer", you could separate who wanted to be runners vs tacklers real quick; and you could separate who wanted to play vs not play quicker!
@psu61: I'm guessing PSUJoe got smeared on a daily basis. That explains a lot!!
Haven't heard that term used in YEARS!!

The rule isn't specific to QB's, anyone can slide. So they are being treated like any other runner.
Sliding should be reserved for baseball, lol.

Roam, that's right but I don't think I've ever seen a RB slide; honestly I don't think any other player than the QB would pull a slide; I could be wrong but I've never seen it.

They'd be subjected to ridicule in practice for sure lol
