Regardless of stats, we won the game 45-13. We have work to do, but this young team will keep working and getting better.

Some perspective: The last time a Redshirt Sophomore took the reigns we came out slow. Kent State 33-13, Pitt 39-42, and Temple 34-27. What happened that year??? Well... we won the Big Ten.

I'd say we are in a better position right now. Played a bad half and won 45-13. I'll take it, make it a teachable moment, and move on to next week.

I don’t care what anybody says their offensive line might be as good as we’ll probably see all year long. Our defensive line is pretty dang good and they had their hands full last night and I’m not saying they got their butts kicked but they did get hit in the mouth which is a good thing because now they know they need to work harder. 99 got slammed around a little but who knows it may be a future NFL guy he was going against. Bottom line is their guys have had a lot of snaps together and ours hasn’t and it takes a little time to jell. Our guys need snaps and they’re gettin it and we did win 45-13 and that’s all that matters. Buffalo has a good coach a really good OL and a pretty good young QB brother and they’ll win a lot of games but  Penn State just won’t be one of ‘em 😁. I said before the game I’d be happy with just a win and I’m sticking to it because you either win or lose and I could care less about how much you win by...just win the game! Now, let’s go stomp Pitt lol

When the team is in a funk, why wait until half-time to do something about it?  Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the way the team responded in the 2nd half and I'm pleased with the win!  I just think Franklin needs to get involved sooner by calling time out and getting in the huddle and/or gather the troops together on the sideline and speak the words of wisdom that he uses at half time.  I've noticed other coaches do this and JoePa did it many times down through the years.

I briefly stated this last night during the game in our game chat. I drove the guys nuts last night bitching and moaning about the 1st half play. I was totally and completely frustrated with their lackluster play and how they were totally dominated in all 3 phases of the game and especially up front on both sides of the ball.

I also went on to say that I expected a totally different 2nd half and for them to come out and make a statement. Which in my opinion they did. That is my biggest take away. They got punched in the mouth and came out the 2nd half and put a tail whooping on em. We can all agree that they have plenty of work to do and lots to clean up but this team has speed, talent and want to. Want To being the most important of the 3. I am Very optimistic about the remainder of this season. This is a very young ball club and you better get em early cause in a couple more weeks they are going to be VERY tough to beat.

Bob,

Coach addressed this in his post game. He said they need to be able to go to the bench analyze and adjust on the fly and not have to wait till halftime. It is something they are going to have to work on and will get better at as they gain experience. Of course I'm paraphrasing.

Hi gents.....I may be wrong as I watched only portions while covering a game but it looked like they were using a lot of underclassmen in the first half to see who could perform well enough once the real season starts.  Ellis and Brisker got burned a couple times early ...didn't see them in second half...again, correct me if I'm wrong.   At times I checked in on second half it appeared to be a solid unit.

Lol, so it begins.  This time let's pull out the "slow start" card and put it on the table. Lmao,  I never heard of anything so silly.  Slow start,  lol.

The real season? Franklin and staff looked like a deer in headlights.

So...you do know that Penn State won 45-13, right? I dunno, the score looked pretty decisive to me. As for deer in the headlights, UB came ready to play with the biggest “name” game they will have all year in the biggest venue they’ve ever played in. They were looking at this game all summer. I would agree with Roam, murray and others they did rotate a lot of younger players...a pretty good idea when you need depth going in to the big schedule. I also agree with FD as he said they got punched in the mouth the first half and came out swinging the second. Pitt will be a better test with Maryland (at Maryland ) looming pretty large.

Thanks for the info, Navy.  I didn't see the post game, but I'm glad he recognizes what I suggested needs to be done.
