He threw for 4 TDs and scored another, and had a few passes dropped. Great last drive. 1 bad pass, but also not a "typical" pick 6 as it was a deep throw.
Not sure why some a hating on him, also don't forget how bad we looked last year when he wasnt healthy...
If I had one criticism about him, it would be that he seems to be a bit injury prone.
I like Cliff. Most of his injuries are due to the poor protection he's had to deal with. I just wish he was more consistent.

6th year on campus and still only a mediocre and inconsistent QB that typically goes through long stretches of bad play in the big games. Injury prone. And as the announcers said last night, part of the reason he’s still here is because he hasn’t been good enough to leave.
I’ll be surprised if we make it through the season without Allar taking over as starter either because of injury or because of enough losses to start building for next year

That knee brace saved him last night! When I saw the replay I thought his season was over.

To be fair, most QBs aren't good enough to leave. We've never had or developed arm talent outside of Kerry Collins
Hopefully that changes with Allar. Trace was great, but not leave early for the NFL great.
Clifford is the kind of QB that needs a good running game. He played and managed the game good his first year and I look for him to be better this year because now we have a stud RB. We’ve got some ok RB’s but singleton and the other kid have the potential to be studs. That’s assuming the coaching staff gives Singleton and the other kid a chance and not split all the carriers evenly 6 ways.
The freshmen running backs were disappointing. The freshmen QB is better than Clifford.
Yep, they both looked like absolute crap in their 1st college game, behind an O line that is still trying to find itself....if they ever do. Maybe we could just "Portal" them, since they didn't live up to your expectations?
Not saying they'll turn into Saquan Barkley, but maybe go check his stats for his 1st college game. I believe he had one carry, for one yard.
When I try to be objective, he had a good game. But we are not good enough that he can overthrow people for an INT like that. Be it a pick 6 or just a TO. As far as DA, he threw 3 nice passes out of 4. The 4th he should have run for a 1st down. I like what I saw from DA but I'm for keeping Cliff for now. Best if we can bring DA along moderately instead of throwing him to the wolves. The position is very physical and mental. We've ruined QB's in the past by putting them in before their time. Bolden vs AL? Last year? Ok, maybe his time was never. And then we have the BOB era where it sucked to be QB.
I see playing time for DA but Cliff's job until we have 2 losses and then we can still intelligently play DA and Cliff.
Hard to be QB without an OL and a running game. But the line did pass protect OK?
The only problem I have with Clifford is his 2-3 bonehead passes a game. He's pretty good for most of the game, but there's always an overthrow, or a backfoot ill-advised pass or two that gets him in trouble.
I don't blame him for that entirely though, it usually happens on 3rd and long when we tried to "establish the running game" for the millionth time.
Just wish Franklin would bite the bullet and let Yurcich run the offense like he did at the end. Go tempo, open up the passing, and take the runs here and there when you can. It seems like a much more effective way to run our offense.
I agree with y’all, Clifford played pretty good but had the few bad throws. All QB’s make a bad throw during a game it’s not settling on a RB that’s killing the offense imo just can’t get a run game going trying to play 5 RB’s.
@underlion The "hit the receivers right in the hands" drops didn't help things either. Hopefully just 1st game jitters.
Even the pros throw interceptions.
@been-there-ii BT, them first games on the road on Thursday night can get ya beat buddy lol. I was very please with the first half but we struggled in the second half. Maybe we’re not giving Purdue enough credit for adjustments because it’s not like they weren’t trying to win. They do have a good coach and QB and the bottom line is, we won 😂
