It will be sooner than 2026. The logistics excuse they’ve been using to delay implementation will be overruled by potential earnings lost. 2024 will see 12 teams in the playoff guaranteed.
This deal should also end any rumors of ND joining the B1G as they got everything they wanted and will remain independent forever.

Not coincidentally, reports are today that the Big 10 is seriously considering expansion with 5 more teams. Notre Dame (should they want to join, though unlikely) Washington, Oregon, Cal, and Stanford.
I would assume if that happens you'd see Arizona, Arizona state, Colorado and Utah go to the Big 12 Leaving Oregon State and Washington State heading to the Mountain West

I read that they were after Oregon and Wash but didn’t see those anything about those other teams. Also read that the ACC teams are locked into that conference for at least a couple more years so it definitely makes sense that the B1G would be looking at more teams from the PAC

The article I read was Oregon and Washington were confirmed, and the "thought" was Cal and Stanford were the other 2.
Though I wouldn't be surprised with anything right now So it's just as likely that it could be Arizona, Arizona state, Utah, or Colorado too. Colorado has a very good sports program, Denver's a big TV market, and it's a traditional rival for Nebraska.
That’s to many team. They can’t play that many games and then all the pounding week after week. I don’t see where this is going? I’m assuming 50 or 60 schools will give up on football?

It would be 20 in the Big 10, which would not lead to any more conference games. It would be 9 game round-robins in the eastern/western divisions and 3 out of conference games. No crossover games. Then the winners of the West and East would meet in a championship game.
Same amount of conference games as there is now.
I assume the West would be USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Oregon, Washington, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
Illinois, Northwestern, and Purdue would head to the East.
Finally, #1 or #4 will get to play #2 or #3 for the championship ....... and #13 and #14 will bitch about how they got screwed!
Or they could go to a 128-team, random draw tournament beginning in week 5 and stop all the nonsense. And have a bowl season which isn't jacked-up by all the shenanigans.

Not going to heppen, and I am glad it's not. I certainly wouldn't watch any college football until the last couple of weeks in the system like that... The 1st 4 games would mean nothing, so why even play them?
Also, at a certain point no one cares about #13 and #14 b*tching about it... Who cares? They would have been wild cards anyway, so you can always just say they should have won their conference.
I'd rather not go to a playoff system where everyone just gets in, the professional sports are starting to do stuff like that and it makes me less interested.
The first 5 weeks are open and the teams can schedule whomever they desire. It's a perfect opportunity for rivalry games.
The tournament starts after the teams have had a chance to work out their problems. Because it is a random draw, the possibility of blow-outs is reduced. Georgia could play Alabama in the 1st week. Seeding is not part of the equation. Every team is fighting for their lives each week. The beauty is that it takes the "experts" out of the equation. And every Sunday night you get a "Random-Draw" show to determine the pairings. Teams only get a few days to prepare. The best survive.

A perfect opportunity for rivalry games? Do you really think that any team would risk their players to play meaningless games?
What coach or player is going to go all out against a rival just because, Those days are over. You have kids opting out of bowl games, they aren't playing in those types of games either.
Also, you're saying that if Alabama plays Georgia in the 1st round than those kids just have their season end if the lose?
These are kids trying to get to the NFL, and a bunch of them are just gonna have their seasons cut short? What some teams every year only play 5-6 games???
Rivalry games are happening now in the early season - Pitt played WVU on Thursday.
But if you are happy watching who the experts determine to be #1 or #4 play #2 or #3 each year for the championship then, the system is good for you.
Yes, rivalry games are happening right now because the regular season actually means something. Beating a good team looks good on your resume, in your system it wouldn't matter whatsoever.
What I am happy with is giving every kid on every team the opportunity to play 12 games, not cut the season in half for literally half the kids in football. I am not in favor of a system where half of the football teams in the nation would play in one meaningful game.
I am much more in favor of a system that awards conference champions, Where many teams still have a shot well into the season to win.
You can still have conference champions based on their total record and the upfront games. You can even have a conference championship game at the end and before the bowl games. Another aspect, there isn't an incentive for the mega-conferences where teams seldom play other teams.
As far as kids getting to play, if a player opts out, a kid down the depth-chart steps up and gets a chance to play.
I have a life to live, let's agree to disagree. I was out at the farm all day and it is time for me to spend time with my family.
@tae-buetel Have fun with the family, But yeah I don't get your system at all. Not sure how you have conference champions based on 4 or 5 games and a bunch of randomized selections... but okay.
I'm not sure I agree with you on the incentive to play other conferences, considering today we have Ohio state playing Notre Dame, Florida playing Utah, Oregon play Georgia, and Alabama playing Texas next week. Seems like there are teams going out there and playing big games.
College football is changing. I’ve said it before. Be careful what you look for. Where this ends up may not be what fans like. Check out DIII football. These are kids who love the game and love to play.
