Some of these stats are just gross...but it's worth the read. Kind of like saying, "God, this tastes like crap. Here you try it." lol
For instance, since 2000 Penn State has averaged 3 or less yards per rush attempt in 70 games. EIGHT (8!) of those games occurred in 2021. Sad thing is, where do you even start to fix the run game? Seems like a multi-layered problem.

Not really multi-layered at all. The 3 interior lineman all sucked. Period.
That's all it was, a bad interior OL. We had a guy who never played center before, a Ivy league transfer, and a guy returning from a terrible injury. It says something that no one behind them was better, mainly that our recruiting on the line sucked in previous years.
I agree, recruiting sucked and player development wasn't there. As much as we cook the O'line coach on development, it could be that the recruits flat out didn't have it to develop which is a symptom of bad recruiting. O'line coach has to be a good recruiter and developer.
The more I think about it, Deion Sanders was spot on when saying that you have to have recruiters who can get into the house, talk the talk with the player and family in order to actually be able to recruit the players you need. That recruiter has to be able to relate to that player and his family.
I'm a firm believer in the need to develop what you recruit. The basic skill set has to be there or why did you recruit the kid in the first place? As far as stars go, I'm not impressed. They only indicate somebody's opinion on the players potential. In order for the kid to succeed, that potential has to be developed. I don't see that happening with our D line coach.
We know full well OL problemms but as RB's coach, does anyone think Seider is partially accountable for the woe's? We haven't had a running game since Miles Sanders and he's been RB coach for 4 years now. He's a fantastic recruiter and we don't want to lose him but there have been times the backs seemed indecisive and slow to get to the outside.

Apiece of that may be the RB just not seeing any running room at the onset. I saw Barkley hit the line plenary of times a basically take a knee, now what he had on the other end was flat power and speed and with a little opening could naturally expose that and get yards. I’ve said for several years we don’t have a back that is either flat out fast, powerful or preferably a combination of both. When I say powerful I mean having the initial burst to get the power moving; just takes to long from what I’ve seen the past few years with the backs we’ve had.
Also there is huge difference between sprint times and power on the practice field vs actual game time performance. Anybody decent RB can juke and jive when not in pads or run through tackling dummies, but come game time when u man up, can be a whole different story.
Lake may have a point here. Maybe Seider isn't doing such a good job of developing the talent in the RB room. Indecisive is a pretty good description of what I've seen quite often. In my opinion, our RB's dance too much. Maybe they're auditioning for "Dancing with the Stars".
Cappy, Kijana, Curt, Aaron Harris, etc..somebody go out and bring the next one in; Barkley was a freak, that’s gonna be a hardddd find and get.
@psu61 hopefully we have a stud in Nic Singleton coming in next year. I think Lee would be ok if he’d stop dancing and run over some dang body.

Don't know about all that BUT, he did create an AWESOME (said sarcastically) LAWN BOYZ Chain for wear on the sidelines!!
I think it's a sign that it's not the RB's when we have a kid in the backfield who ran for a 6.0 average at Baylor and here he could barley could crack 3 ypc.
I believe Roam hit the nail square on the head...It is the interior of the OLine...I also think the TE's as a unit did a horrible job as well...They missed a lot of assignments to say the least...You can have a combination of Barry Sanders, Earl Campbell and Jim Brown and if those guys up front are human turnstiles they ain't going anywhere...In my opinion the Oline was the difference between Penn State playing Georgia in the CFP and Michigan...Look at Michigan dominate the game up front and run it down everybodies throat...They are in a 3rd and 2 it's no problem...They line up and run it down your throat and move the chains...Until that unit gets fixed Penn State ain't winning anything...That's all there is to it...

Really funny. I'm too much of a traditionalist like from the JoePa days but Lawn Boyz like Yawn Boyz.
Of course its the OL...It's really bad and never improved!!!! But the backs didn't do crap!!! Is it the talent or does coaching to the backs leave something to be desired. Geesh. Look at the analytics provided on the first post. Production dramatically declined the last 3 years. True PSU's running game hasn't been great for several years and yes the OL hasn't been great the last several years but these running backs were studs coming in (maybe not as good as studly as Barkley and Sanders) but really good. Seider is also the Run Coordinator. I'm not so sure what a run coordinator does but I'm just saying that Seider should also be held accountable for the lack in production.

As I said I don't think it's a coincidence that the running back from Baylor averaged 6 yds per carry there and only 3 yds per carry here
@roaminglion LOL....I think I've said my piece. This could go on and on.
Barkley ran behind a bunch of all pro's compared to the human turnstiles this group of backs is running behind...To be fair none of these current running backs have the talent of a Barkley or Miles Sanders but then again those 2 guys are generational talents...I personally believe the problem with the running game isn't the backs but the interior OLine and the blown assignments by the TE's..
@the-funeral-director I believe the problem is both, bad OL and not Penn St Material RB’s. Who the heck was it that use to say that 😂 remoh?
My personal opinion is you could take a hybrid RB with the best traits of Barry Sanders, Earl Campbell and Jim Brown and they ain't running behind this group of turnstiles...You think the RB stable is weak that is your opinion...I don't think these RB's are as bad as you guys do but that is open for honest debate as everything is around here...My personal opinion is nobody is going to be able to effectively run behind this OLine...They are just bad...The worst OLine Penn State as ever had in my opinion...They couldn't block a lawn chair...The TE's were poor in this department as well...Lots of missed assigments...They have a lot of work to do...
@the-funeral-director we have 6 four star recruits on the OL on the team, you telling me all of ‘em are overrated and suck? That means 247 sports recruiting, rivals, scouts, James Franklin, Matt Limegrover and the OL coach we have now all got it wrong? I ain’t buying it. The RB’s are below Penn St standards they are slow and can’t run over anybody. Lee could be good if he would run straight ahead but he’s still not the RB we’re use to at Penn st
IMO, stars = potential, Southern. Sad commentary on the coaching since that potential hasn't been developed.
I don't give a flying rip if they were rated as the best OLine recruits in the last 25 years...Their body of work speaks for itself...They can't block a lawn chair...Worst OLine I have ever seen in my lifetime at Penn State...I would get rid of all of em and bring in 20 more...They can't be any worse...So yeah I am telling you that they stink...
I would like to see YPC on first down runs for the last 2 years.
