It looks like PSU's pass plays are first and foremost designed to avoid interceptions.
Wide receiver screens - 2 yards behind the line and most times about a yard from the side line (mostly to the short side).
Crossing routes - the 5 yard deep are not thrown until the receiver is almost to the side line. This is mostly used on a third and 9 or 10.
- the 15 yard deep is rinse and repeat the 5 yard version.
Tight end - 5 yard hook usually used on a third and 6 or 7.
- 10 to 15 yard, generally thrown down the side line, either a difficult catch or out of bounds.
Running backs - wheel routes and screens are rare.
Long bombs - mostly overthrown: either our WR outruns someone and makes a fingertip catch or the pass is incomplete.
I find it hard to believe that not a single WR can get separation.
Let Allar throw into tight coverage and risk some interceptions - he will need to against UM.
For those of you who attend the games, what is your take?
Some of this is tongue -in- cheeK. Some is not!
The main thing I’ve noticed at games is no matter what play is called Allar goes to his check down. Even when it appears a long pass play is called he doesn’t give it time to develop and checks down. Guy running wide open over the middle, Allar checks down.
Say what you want about our receivers but I’ve witnessed multiple times that they’ve been open and for whatever reason he doesn’t see them.

@psujoe All> gee I wonder if he had played last year like he should have (imho) if he would have better experience and be able to do these things. 6 years ?
What you are describing to me comes down to film study and pre game preparation...I can also tell you his footwork hasn't been good the last few games either...he has begun tapping his feet (happy feet) and not setting and stepping into his throws properly...These are very bad habits and need to nipped in the bud ASAP...Some of these kids NEVER learn or never develop the ability to spot guys through progressions...A lack of confidence can also be the case and possibly it is all of the above...At some point you gotta take the diaper off and throw the ball down field...
@the-funeral-director and if it ain’t working try another QB. Ohio St and Penn St are struggling on offense this year and both teams have pocket QB’s. There’s a reason Harbaugh went to an athletic QB and it’s working pretty good for him. I’m still trying to figure out after Hack why we go and recruit true pocket QB it makes no sense to me. The kid has talent that’s why we’re 6-1 right now but we ain’t winning a NC with a pocket QB and I’m assuming that’s what the goal is. We can win 10 or 11 games with a pocket QB but that’s about it imo. A QB like Michigan has is what we should be recruiting because these are the playmakers that can win you a NC when you struggle up front. There’s only a few teams that have the studs up front that can make it work and we’re not one of ‘em. The game has changed this ain’t the 90’s
