The new plan to make parking easier was an absolute DISASTER. This is a classic example of trying to fix something that wasn't really broken. I heard dozens, upon dozens of people complaining about parking. They basically took all routes and funneled them into 1 or 2 entry points which had people sitting in several mile-long backups. I spoke with several people who walked from the highways leaving only the driver in the car so they would make it to the game on time when they had planned to arrive several hours early.Â
And now for the most "What in the _____ were you thinking" part of this is that they actually stop every single car coming into the lot to punch holes in the parking pass so they cannot be reused. This is the equivalent of taking cash from ever car, something they tried to avoid having to do in previous years by making gameday parking more expensive. I am amazed that this was suggested and approved as a good idea.Â
I get it, you want to eliminate the reselling of passes as scalpers would come and buy a pass from people in a lot for a few bucks and resell them along the road... but there has to be a better way.
Bottom line, if you are planning to go to a game you may want to add an additional 2 hours to your trip and plan accordingly.Â
Undercover cops. I heard from and witnessed multiple underage drinking arrests. Undercover cops were walking around in Penn State Jerseys and wearing backpacks to blend in and it seemed to be working. The PA State Police also utilized a drone to monitor tailgating and better respond to problems.Â
In my opinion, this is sorely needed as tailgating has gotten a little out of hand. Â
I used to go to every game. The past few years I cut back to the better games. This year probably just the two biggest games. Parking is the main reason I don't want go. Costs way to much to park in a field a mile from the stadium. Always end up in a different location and walking farther to meet up with friends. They keep building stuff on places where you could park close before. They really don't care about the fans. Just the money. Its probably just old age, but I just don't enjoy it enough now to go through all the hassles.
I had season tickets from 1968 until I gave them up in protest because the BOT did JoePa dirt when the scandal broke. I know my personal protest had no effect, but it made me feel better. I'm not looking to bring up old issues, I only mentioned it to set the stage for the following comments. I totally agree with OMPA1 & FD. The powers that be don't give a sheet about the fans, only the money! It got worse every year and made it more of a hassle to go to games. The current parking situation that Cave described is totally unacceptable. I have gotten over missing the game day experience and enjoy rooting for the team from the comforts of home 😊Â
My take getting in for me was not terrible, went to atherton to eat but done that route many times. I used the WAZE ap that directs you right to the lot, and took me a few blocks out of the way but much quicker than the way I used to go. The bad part was getting out sat in line in the parking lot over an hour. Lot 12, It was terrible, and I left midway through the third quarter. If they do not straighten it out soon they can kiss my sorry butt goodbye as a season ticket holder.
