I was hoping for a little more last night, but I think we saw a Penn State team that is going to be good and will improve from week to week. WVU wasn't that typical powder puff team we always start out with and at no point did I think this game was going to slip out of Penn States hands...I felt very comfortable with Allar, his decision making for his first career start and he had the offense under control.
Defense? Hey, they didn't give up any big plays and only aloud 7 points ( the other TD wasn't the first team D). I wasn't thrilled with the LB's, I think they need some more work. And I didn't like the lack of pressure we put on the QB....really didn't disrupt WVU's backfield too much. However, the guys from the BUS Radio thought they did very well so maybe I just know what I am talking about!
I realize we play Delaware next, but I expect a big difference in what see next week vs week 1. The biggest improvements are almost always made between week 1 and week 2 and Penn State is going to fall into this scenario. One penalty for 5 yards? This is a well disciplined team which tells me they will adjust very well and be able to zero in all improvements quickly!
What about Allar? This kid can burn you quickly as we saw last night on that opening drive. You give him another game or two and I think he is going to be something special. Just thought he handled everything very well last night. I don't think there is really any negative comments that can be made on his first start. I like what I saw and I think we have a very good QB and offense. A couple of tweaks here and there and they are going to be very good!
That was a nice win, nice start and I thought the play calling was good. Was hoping for more from the run game, but I think Allar was feeling comfortable with the passing game and the focus was more on that. However, the split was good....30 pass plays and 35 running plays.
GO STATE!!!!
Defense somehow only gave up 14 points but didn’t live up to the pre season hype. D’line and linebacker play against a bottom feeder Big12 team was very concerning and making me consider revising my season prediction because if they play like that in league play we’re losing more than two games. Next week will be an indicator of things to come, if we don’t dominate we’re in trouble.
Offense looked good and unstoppable. Overall Alllar looked great, the O’line was so-so, backs were good and McClain was a pleasant surprise at WR but where were the TE’s ?
Sahaydak is a serious concern in the kicking game. I’ve been wondering why he didn’t play last year because he was a highly touted recruit and on Saturday I think I found out why. Whathisname the backup kicker needs to start next week IMO because we need to find out if he’s reliable and we’re going to need a kicker in the whiteout.
Lots of speculation here. Maybe UWV is better than anticipated. If so, PSU played well. If the Mountaineers stink, then Penn State will have issues.
@sky there’s two sides to that coin, maybe we’re not as good as advertised? I saw a lot of good and a lot of things that were concerning on Saturday. We’ll find out a lot in the next two weeks.
Interior D line looks light as do the LB's. Top 5 B10 teams O' I think are gonna give the D' line a fit and Lbs are gonna have to play lights out.
O' looked pretty good; DA is a big'un and can throw the ball and handle getting out of the pocket a bit. Will be interesting to see the intensity level of the O' line stacks up against the B10 top 5 D.
