20% attendance, face coverings required, no tailgating. That is, if football even happens?

Full stadiums, huh? Bank on it? Those proclamations haven’t aged well.

I would agree, however, I find myself watching MLB games and not even really noticing the absent fans. I do think college football will be where we notice it the most though because college fans are a huge advantage for the home team.

I think we already knew this was a go from the PIAA weeks ago and I hope the season gets played. However, what isn’t in this article that I saw on our local news is that in the same meeting the PIAA voted to not have spectators at the games. Also, in the fine details of the article, it said that if one player tests positive, the entire team gets shut down for 14 days. So, do they forfeit 2 games? The opponents aren’t getting a game in that case, so it affects them equally. What happens if a school decides to go completely online for the first marking period? How are fall sports affected. Two schools in our area decided this just this week. It’s also worth noting that Virginia has already cancelled or postponed the fall sports for the state.

It is going to be a mess, college and HS football both.  I don't think a team will be penalized for having a player(s) test positive....especially if their infection came from a previous game where the opposing team may have been where the infection came from.  I think it will be trial and error week after week, last minute changes to schedules and hopefully they can get SOME games in over the fall.  Once the regular season is over and the dust settles, a post season committee will determine if and how a championship playoff and title game will pan out.

Honestly, I think at this point they should just call it and move it to late winter or early Spring. We rushed to open up as a society and that hasn't really fared out too well.  Now we are rushing to open sports and that too isn't faring out so well.

I would like to see football happen this fall, I am just not sure they can pull it off.  We are talking about 19/20 year old kids on average and they are going to slip up.  Somebody is going to make a bad decision, get the virus and that is just how it is.  And even if THEY don't make a bad decision, somebody else will and affect them.  You are not going to isolate these kids 100%, so expect to see most if not all teams get a case or two over the season.

If they give it a shot, take one week at time and if at any point it becomes questionable, stop and pick back up in the spring.  No matter what, this will not look or taste like the football we are used to.  BUT, that really isn't the issue.  The health of the kids and containing this virus is. Hopefully this won't be around next year and we will be all posting about the Covid19 season as a crazy time in our life.... and that the Nittany Lions where the National Champions during the world Covid 19 pandemic!

GO STATE!!

Wow. Giving tsuga a taste of his own medicine? My kids and wife would call that a bad dad joke. Although, I did chuckle a bit.
