If I was a Buckeye fan, I would be rooting against Penn State & Notre Dame the rest of the year. If we beat Michigan State and Michigan, that would be seriously bad for them. Just think about it: Ohio State would have no victories against any top ranked teams, and the only highly ranked team they would have played would be Oregon... who beat them IN COLUMBUS.

Now, put the schedule against and undefeated Cincinnati, with a victory over a possible 11-1 #6 Notre Dame? I don't think the CFP committee could find any justification to put the Buckeyes ahead of the Bearcats at that point. Just my opinion, but it's going to be very hard to keep Cincy out if the CFP while also ranking someone they beat at #6. I don't care what conference they play in, they beat a team you are saying is the #6 team in the nation. It's laughable at that point and a completely corrupted system if it happens.

Two outcomes: 1 - Cincy makes it or 2 - They get left out and it accelerates the move to playoff expansion. There's just no way they get left out without huge controversy. No one cares what happened in a bowl game vs. Georgia in 2020. Everyone talks about the 5 players opting out from Georgia, yet no one mentions the 4 starters from Cincinnati who were also out of that game as well (two of whom were drafted and on active rosters in the NFL this year).

i think there's a very high probability that SMU defeats Cincinnati and ends all speculation about the Bearcats and the playoffs.

@psujoe

I was thinking the same thing too until they lost to Memphis.  Houston wasn't a bad loss, but the Memphis loss.....not so sure now.

If Cincy wins out, I think you need to put them in.  THAT win over ND is better than any win OK has, Ohio State has, Alabama has and for that matter, even better than any win Georgia has. None of the teams GA beat is even ranked in the top 25 TODAY. I am not saying GA is over ranked, I am just saying the teams they beat did not fair out too well after 10 weeks.

Sure, Tulsa gave Cincy all they could handle.  BUT, Bama lost to T&AM, had a near miss with an unranked FLorida and LSU. OKLA had several near misses....especially that game vs Tulane.  Ohio State had two near misses and one loss....and they have 3 more games to go that are NOT slam dunk wins. Heck, GA struggled with what is now a not so great Clemson team.

My point is, all of the top teams have had some bad games except for GA who really has been in control of all of their games. .  So why do we need to hold CINCY to an even level when they got the job done vs #7 ND.

All I know is Penn State blew it! They should be sitting at 8-1 at the worse....injured QB or not!! When you have a defense ONLY giving up 12 points ( 4 FG's and a turn away ) on 5 red zone trips like Ohio State had......you win that game too!

It’s not that the top teams have had bad games it’s they play competition every week something Cincinnati doesn’t do. Cincinnati will get drilled in the playoffs and the CFC knows this that’s why they put them 6th then there’s the money things.

@mtnittanylion And that's why the playoff should be expanded.

BS. Boise State and UCF beat top ranked teams in bowls and the excuse is "didnt want to be there". So then when they beat a top 10 team during the regular season, it's "they don't play in a tough conference". Then there is "look at what happened last year" as some sort of nonsense that's supposed to have bearing on this year.

Here is a question for you: How many ranked teams in the CFP rankings have Ohio State and Georgia beat... and how many have Cincinnati beat?

FFS... at this point if I was a Group of 5 school I'd almost consider suing because it is getting ridiculous. It's such a bad faith system, that tells Group of 5 schools what they need to do but constantly changes the finish line to keep them out.

Please can we just go to 8 or 12 and let them at least have a chance to prove themselves? I am so sick of the blanket statement "they know they would get killed". First off, not they don't. They THINK they will. Second.....  WHO CARES! How is it any different from Michigan State getting curbstomped when they made it, or Notre Dame getting thrashed every time? No one blinks an eye when a Power 5 team sends a sacred lamb to slaughter, so why should it matter if Cincy goes?

I actually agree with that statement. Money is the trail to a lot of questionable decisions.
