Finally got my internet back. Haven't had time to read all the posts, but did we decide that maybe Franklin wasn't calling the plays? As in the offense got waaaaay better after Franklin was sent down the road or is coach K the real problem?

I don’t believe James Franklin was ever calling the plays just like I didn’t believe he was holding back on offense the first 3 games. He just fudged up with NIL, the transfer portal and recruiting and we need Manny Diaz to fix it 😂

The offense is flat out offensive...He needs to go and should have been shown the exit with Franklin...What a disaster...The sad thing is I don't even think Saturday is going to be a competitive game...I am already making plans for 2pm because I figure the game will be unwatchable by then...I am going to have to pull myself away from the TV so I don't throw the friggin remote through the screen...

AK actually has a very cleaver design for the wide receivers - run directly at the defensive back and stay within 2 feet of the DB for the duration of the play. When the QB is forced to run because no one is open, the wide receivers are in a perfect position for down field blocking. I'm other OCs don't use this concept.

There hasn't been a good and creative OC at Penn State since Joe Moorehead...It's been a parade of idiots since then...I peewee coach could design defenses to stop these clowns offenses...

He wasn't calling plays, he was calling more runs. The OC always called the plays, but Franklin absolutely told them what type of plays to run

I have no idea why you think Manny Diaz would fix the offense. He has the highest paid QB in college and Duke's offense aint great.

@roaminglion And it got better for the Iowa game? Didn't see it, didn't record it, didn't read any stats, so not sure of anything, other than we didn't score enough points....again.

It absolutely got better, we all saw it. Factor in we were playing the best defense we've seen with a backup QB and anyone with eyes could see the playcalling was better

No saying it was great, but it wasn't the same "bang your head into the wall until it works" crap we have seen.

I like this kid Grunk...He has all the physical tools but more importantly he has a feel for the game...I think he is going to be a very good one and possibly even great...He is sort of a hybrid of Allar and Pribula...He has a little of the best parts of both of their games...I just hope they don't ruin the kid til the next coach gets there...

Watch Grunk’s high school tape; fluid, can  pocket pass, pass on the run, and.. leads his receivers. Looks like he has solid natural ability with success at the lower level that hopefully carries over. There is a point where the in between the ears mechanics become more important than having wheels and arm strength.

Grunkenmeyer will be a fine QB he just needs some meaningful snaps. Depends on who we get as coach because if the new coach comes from college like Duke or Ga Tech they might bring a QB with ‘em. I thought Brent Key would get a look but I’m not seeing it. You talking a dumpster fire that’s what Tech was until Key took over. He’s 8-1 against ranked teams and had a chance to beat Georgia.

I bet Grunk would thrive under cousin Urbs!

Brent Key is an alum of GT... I think he is just telling people "no" when they ask. I don't think he wants to leave his alma mater

@rip,      I think it was "61" that had the idea of Cousin Urbs being an interim hire on an extended basis, and that would permit a bridge from just before the portal opening until when the eventual future coach could come on board.  That would give Penn State a "splash hire" and ensure they were fully engaged during the portal session.

You have to believe that at this point the brain trust and money men who are ultimately going to make this hire have zeroed in on who their candidates are...I have to believe some sort of an announcement is going to be coming down in the next week or 2...I gotta admit the Ole Cousin Urban and Hartline proposal that Homer made is quite intriguing but for me personally I would be quite cautious about bringing in Ole Cousin Urbin...He brings in a lot of baggage but you can't deny his success...

@the-funeral-director  I hope it ain’t Hartline because I don’t trust bringing in a coach from Ohio St when he’s had the best players money can buy and recruit and their offense struggles and they were on the verge of gettin fired last year until the team settled down and had a good playoff run and they’ve lost to Michigan 4 or 5 straight years and had the better players and team but like the president of the USA 🇺🇸 baby I’ll be his biggest fan if he’s the head coach at Penn State because I don’t NEVER pull against the USA or Penn State…PERIOD!

Listen...I am on the record with what I would do...I would go to Indiana and back up the Brinks truck and make Cignetti an offer he can't refuse...And who knows that may be exactly what is going on...I am sure they are in active pursuit of whoever it is they are targeting if they haven't already come to an agreement in principle...

I believe Kraft is going to package Knowles as a retained DC for the incoming HC, that may or may not be an issue. Knowles is the highest paid Coordinator in college, given his prior performance. Some key portal additions, Rojas back, his defense could begin to peak in the next 2-3 seasons, while there’s obviously been a lapse in expectation this season atleast Knowles appears to have a lot more upside than AK which will most assuredly be looking for a new job.

Kraft is hiring for his job. If he is smart he needs to find a young, dynamic coach with a distinct offensive philosophy and allow him to fill his roster to work that system.

I agree with you 100% Kularrow...I believe Knowles stays...I also believe the coach they are bringing in is already chosen and if an agreement in principle hasn't already happened they are certainly in the final stages of finalizing something...I think the new coach has already been decided on...

@kularrow Jim Knowles makes me even a bigger Manny Diaz guy because Jim Knowles will definitely be out if Manny is the man. The dude is lost because he doesn’t have 5* players at every position. That probably means s it’s the OC from Ohio State. I hope they know what they’re doing.
