After watching the game yesterday, I thought John Donovan was calling the plays. Rahne has to be replaced in light of his poor playing with a lead and the inabilty to expose the opponent’s defensive weaknesses. He had two weeks to prepare for MSU and there was not a pass play attempted than eclipsed 20 yards. JF loyalty to mediocre coaches will be is downfall at PSU.
It’s one bad game in 3 years let’s not overreact. When is was nitty gritty time their QB and receiver made a play and out DB didn’t and it cost us a win, it happens. I always say it doesn’t matter what happens all game it’s what you do when it’s crunch time, we didn’t make the play to win the game it’s that simple.
Its Race day baby at Talladega motor Speedway. Let’s go #2 baby!
Evidently the OSU game did not count. Rahne’s offense is way too predictable and the better Big Ten defenses know that.
For all intent and purposes this season is done, unless you are just playing for a good bowl game. It is time to get Stevens and Clifford some valuable playing time (not mob up) and start to prepare for next season. Start McSorley, but get Stevens playing time, if he is our guy for next year. If we are to become an elite team, we must start to make our move for next season now. Just a thought.
We played good in the Ohio State game we just lost. It wasn’t a bad game!
Playing calling is killing the PSU Offense. No scheme for eating time off the clock, underutilizing the speed at wide receivers with 7-8 yard dinks. Rahne is overmatched against good defenses.
Definitely agree with investing into future. Farmer needs to be replaced by Parsons, Johnson by Brooks. Holland should never see the field again at TE. And please, get a new field goal kicker. I hope JF pulls Pinegar scholarship after this year and give it to someone more worthy.
So why didnt we fire Moorehead last year after we lost to both OSU and MSU?? Although there are things i'd like to see brought into the offense (like a fullback on short yardage situations) I dont see the need to put anyone's head to the chopping block just yet.
Moorhead brought the PSU from the dead after Donovan and was able to beat the better teams in the Big Ten. Do you think Rahne would be hired by anyone in the Power 5 to be their OC?
Moorhead got a head coaching job which is something Rahne will never get.
beat the better teams in the big ten?? He lost to Michigan, OSU, and MSU. Rahne only lost to OSU and MSU. I totally see what you're saying but at least give the man a chance. I may be on your side by the end of the season, but as for right now; I think people are being way too premature in calling for people's jobs.
Agree, and his next big test against a good football team is Iowa. Will be interesting to see what adjustments and new wrinkles Rahne sprinkles in to the offensive game will plan.
And may I ask again, what happened to our LION (Stevens)?
Exactly Tsuga! Judge a mans whole future on his first 6 games as a OC! What a flipping joke! And then try to make a comparison to a guy that has had multiple (2 or 3) stints as an OC and as a prior Head Coach. Oh by the way, as you just stated had similar results!!!! Get the F outta here!
So if your going to compare the 2, then in reality, Rahne is doing pretty good as a rookie OC compared to someone with Moorhead's experience, so far.
Here's the bottom line... The offense in both games this year and last year put the team in a position to win all 4 games! THE DEFENSE was the unit that let the lead slip and let the opponent back in the ball game!
Granted, when in the do or die situation the O came up short, but the D should have never let them get or put them in that situation!
The blame needs to be shared equally Franklin, Pry and Rahne. To hang all this on Rahne is asinine!! In fact I put more of the blame on Pry!
Offense game plan was atrocious yesterday and against OSU, could not run out the clock and the worst call of the year. PSU was lambasted all week on the play and you think Rahne is doing a great job. You know nothing about football.
JF will sink with those mediocre coaches that he brought with him or hired.
I want you to answer ONE question for me honestly. Ok?? Here goes: If everything last year stayed the same BUT at last year's Iowa game if JJ drops the ball in the end zone or Trace has the pass tipped at the line of scrimmage would you have been calling for JM's head?? Be honest with yourself, because that would have given us three losses.
Why hurl insults at Navylion just because he disagrees with you?? For the record, he's forgotten more about football than you'll ever know.
Dude you need to chill the hell out! FIRST OFF, show me in my post where I said Rahne is doing a great job. I never said anything of the sort!
YOU compared him to Moorhead," Moorhead brought the PSU from the dead after Donovan and was able to beat the better teams in the Big Ten. Do you think Rahne would be hired by anyone in the Power 5 to be their OC?"
I said,"
So if your going to compare the 2, then in reality,Rahne is doing pretty good as a rookie OC compared to someone with Moorhead’s experience, so far.
"Doing pretty good so far" is a far cry from doing a great job!
My other point was comparing the 2 as opposed to your comparison, they have almost exactly the same results against the SAME 2 teams OSU and MSU that you are talking about!
So how do you justify your comment," Moorhead brought the PSU from the dead after Donovan and was able to beat the better teams in the Big Ten. THEY BOTH HAD THE SAME RESULT AGAINST THE SAME 2 TEAMS!!
So then you say," JF will sink with those mediocre coaches that he brought with him or hired." Well what is it? Is Moorhead good or bad? He was hired by Franklin.
Dude your all over the place.
Oh last but not least,"PSU was lambasted all week on the play and you think Rahne is doing a great job."
First, the game only lasted 60 minutes, not all week and I never once mentioned anything "on the play".
I might not know a lot about football but you damn sure are lacking WAY more on reading comprehension than my football knowledge.
And I stand by my statement that to judge a coaches future on his first 6 games is moronic, idiotic and just plain stupid!
Preach it NavyLion!!!!!!!!!
Roam has taught me well!!! LOL!! Thanks Tsuga!!
Surprising that he could say, get the F outta of here, but a sensible response back is frowned on.
An insult is considered a sensible response?? Got it.
Look, I wasn't even talking to you, I was talking to Tsuga. Not sure where your from, but where I'm from saying get the F outta of here is like saying really, you kidding me, go on etc...
What I was trying to say in my post which you twisted all up was yes, in the do or die situation the O did not produce, but you can't overlook the lack of play by the defense that put them in a pressure/bad situation. And with that said, the loss is not all on Rahne. Not to mention the same exact thing happened to Moorhead when he was the OC. PSU was beating OSU for 3 quarters until the D ran out of gas and let OSU back in the game. That is not Rahne's fault
We were up by 3 points with 1:10 left in the game and the D let them drive 76 yards on 8 plays and let them score a touchdown. The offense no matter how bad you think it was, had us in a position to win the game and it was the D that blew it in the end. They let them walk 76 yards down the field and score a touchdown! They gave up a 21 yard pass, 11 yard pass, 8 yard pass and a 25 yard touchdown pass. I have issues with that!
Look I'm not going to sit here and say that O is playing up to or exceeding expectations, they have a lot to work on to be a playoff team. Rahne needs to grow and grow fast if this team wants to stay competitive. But, you can't overlook the defense in these losses either. It's a TEAM sport on both sides of the ball.
Read these independent comments on the beloved PSU HC.
The first paragraph pretty much sums up what I have been trying to say all night. It was not just the offense.

<h1 class="article-cnt__heading">Media burns Penn State James Franklin after Michigan State loss</h1>
</header><section><section class="article-body">Crucified by media members after Saturday's late-game collapse against Michigan State, James Franklin has seen better days as head coach in Happy Valley.
Penn State's second loss of the season, this time coming off an open week following a 1-point setback to Ohio State, is a tough one to stomach for Nittany Lions fans.
Leading 17-14 in the fourth quarter against the Spartans, Penn State went three-and-out with a chance to ice it before giving up an eight-play, 76-yard touchdown drive in 1 minute to fall, 21-17.
"We had a chance to put them away several times on offense, on defense and on special teams and we didn't do it," Franklin said. "We let them stay in the game."

Until this game PSU had one of the top scoring offenses in the country. As in top five. One game and you want to remove Rahne?!!! Still the fourth ranked offense in the country. Good Lord people.
