The thing I may be most excited about was not seeing a QB draw every other damn play. Lol!!!

Also not a bunch of rotations... they know who the starters are and will play them

Agree. Wish Clifford had a better day. Not sure we will see much better performance from our QB.

I'm optimistic... Wisky's front 7 are VERY good and we may not see a better defense all year. Plus, Clifford didn't make the bad mistakes he did last year. There's a lot to build on, hopefully they become a better offense as the year progresses.

Clifford didn’t beat us like he did last year. He’ll get better as the year goes it was the first game with a new OC

Wedding today so I missed the game and then my recording stopped with us on the 2.5 yard line after the Wisc off sides.

So we scored the TD and missed an extra point.  Then we let them drive the length of the field before two errors by the QB.

I saw solid defense and good punting.  On offense I saw an offensive line with some question marks and a QB that missed to many throws.  I was surprised with the lack of production by our TE's.  Good adjustments at half time...the first half was horrible.  Clifford had several opportunities to run for 5 plus yards and he ended up with 0-2 yards.  I know we don't want him hurt but we also need to win.

@underlion   Like Roam said, Wisconsin might have the best defense we face all year plus it’s the first game and we found a way to get the win. Good teams find a way to win regardless how you get it. I’m sasified as ole Clarence Carter would say 😁 just win baby!

We also got some bad calls today which imo kept Wisconsin in the game. I just didn’t believe Wisconsin was good enough at QB to beat us.

I agree. I think what you see with Clifford now is what you got; he'll have a game or two of great numbers but IMO, his orders will be game management/no turnovers;  I don't see the McSorely, Robinson, McGloin, ..'It' factor when down by 17 or need a score in a 1:30 with Clifford. Not meant to be a knock on him, just being realistic; I do hope he catches fire and has one of those season's; that would/will be fun to watch.

Sometimes we can be impatient I know I can anyway. Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia QB’s didn’t play good either because it was stiff competition on the first game. Let’s give ole Clifford until the auburn game then we’ll know what we got because he did make enough good plays to help get the win. First game with new OC he will get better.16-7 as a starter

Let's be patient.  Baby steps - he didn't do anything silly to lose it for us.

I accept being patient but this is Clifford’s third year as a starter. To compete for the National Championship, he needs to consistently up his game.

Of course, but to be fair it's also his 3rd OC and new offense to learn in 3 years as well.

I guess in some ways, it nice to think we have a QB that regardless of the situation, can just pick the ball up and play, say like the 1 in 1000 freshman QBs that just get it, or a McSorley type that innately can seize the opportunity and improvise out of the chute. Now granted I'm talking about skill and the proverbial It factor which is had to come by, so I do think there has to be a fairness of what the expectation is being that we basically know what we got for the most part, at least I believe that, again no knock on the kid, I do think he is giving it 110%.

Let's not forget that McSorley took a few games to get Moorehead's offense as well. 4 of his first 7 games he was under 55% passing and threw for 209, 160, 150, and 120 yards.

Missing open receivers and not putting the ball where the receiver keeps his momentum has nothing to do with learning a new OC's system, he easily could've had 350 yards passing yesterday.

I hated the announcers saying implying Clifford would run when needed when it seemed he had good opportunities to run for good yardage several times...once faking a pass when he was 3 yards past LOS.

He didn't make the LB's respect him nor were they forced to respect the TE's.  Seemed the TE's ran more routes as receivers than TE's?

Well actually it does, if you knew anything about football. This isn't backyard throw it and I'll get it to you stuff, it's timing and knowing the route adjustments. Simply put many times fans will think an INT is the QB's fault when the coaches absolutely know it's a WR running the wrong route. It's also easier to make unforced errors when you are uncomfortable and over thinking things.

Don't think Mac Jones overthrew anyone last year? I can tell you he did, deep balls just thrown too far. I know because I watched the games as a Bama fan, not just the highlights that make every QB look like a rockstar who never misses.

I'm not saying Clifford is Mac Jones, but he's also not some shmuck who sucks either.

@roaminglion LMAO nice spin SPINSTER! if a QB hasn't been able to make those throws in 3 years as a starter it has nothing to do with the coordinator but it does have to do with the person in questions abilities. He's still the weak link to greatness for this team and he needs to step up his game or we have no chance.

Just win baby! Wisconsin probably has a top 5 defense and we went in there and got the win. Ole Southern  don’t care how the wins come as long as they come. I’ll complain when we lose but right now I’m happy as a big ole fat rat in a cheese factory. 1-0 baby and more wins are on the way lol

Gee, I wonder where I heard that before. Oh I know, me. I've been saying it since last season. Never said he's great, and have consistently said he needs to get better.

But yes, learning a new offense and changing a system does have its issues earlyn on. It happens. Man reading your nonsense is mind numbing.

Teams have won a NC with an average QB. I expect as Clifford becomes more comfortable with the system, his numbers will improve. I don’t think Clifford will carry the team but hopefully he won’t hurt it.
