The only shame I felt was when the BoT folded and went into the CYA mode. One guy, who was no longer employed by the University, committed crimes. But BoB is right, lots to be proud of now.

One day he says he loves PSU and it’s his home and then the next day he bolts for the NFL. His departure was also at a bad time. We got lucky getting Franklin. I wish him the best but I am not a fan. He used PENN STATE.

We all should thank BOB for not leaving when the sanctions came down, he stayed 2 years and kept things together bringing in some good talent. I always knew BOB was a NFL guy and knew he would leave after a couple of years and don’t blame him for following his dreams to be a NFL head coach, trust me BOB did a great job at penn st and laid the ground work for JF to come in and win, I still believe James Franklin’s job was much harder but BOB did do a good job, both men were the right guys at the right time, maybe penn st’s athletic department deserves a lot of credit for getting these 2 coaches?

I agree Southern. O’Brien said from day 1 that the NFL was the pinnacle of the coaching profession. He made no bones about his desire to some day coach in the NFL. Anybody who thought he was at Penn St for the long term was kidding themselves. He could have ran in 2012 when the sanctions came out because he was lead to believe there would be no sanctions. But, he stayed and weathered the storm. If someone has an issue with O’Brien then they weren’t seeing the big picture. I hated to see him go, but everything turned out fine for Penn St.

When he was first hired at PSU, I was very underwhelmed.  At the time, we were down to our, what--5th or 6th choice?--and it seemed like we were really reaching just to find a warm body who could stand on the sidelines.  But I was wrong.   I can't imagine any coach doing better under the circumstances at the time than BO'B did.

Totally agree that his having weathered 2012 and 2013 allowed us to stabilize and then regroup. We needed a strong coach who could provide leadership to the players.

I honestly believe had BOB jumped ship on us it would’ve took 15 to 20 years to recover? When I say recover I mean winning conference championships and winning 10 or more games a year?

Totally agree. BoB had confidence which was contagious to the team leaders. He was not a cheer leader, and that confidence that he showed was the ingredient for success. Nobody expected anything close to what happened in 2012 and 2013, and certainly not what has transpired the last 2 years.
