Hopefully this offense gets much more consistent next year. We really don't lose anyone unless Friermuth decides to leave early, which I really hope he doesn't. I don't think Hamler will leave early either, he wouldn't be drafted highly.
If those two do come back, we're loaded. At that point, a 2nd WR or two is bound to step up and make a difference. Or, Clifford will have matured and become more comfortable looking towards other options. The running game should be better too.
The defense is an interesting conundrum, because we do lose some players but the talent behind them is very good. LBs will be upgraded IMO, the experience Ellis Brooks and Brandon Short have gotten this year will serve them well. Then there is Luketa and Dixon... we're set there and probably will be our best LB core in a while.
The DT duo of Mustipher and Hansard will be very good, I think they weren't quite ready this year (Mustipher is young and Hansard first year from major injury). The DE's should be good too, against lots of talent but not quite there yet. This year the DE's kinda fell off a bit towards the end of the year, I'm sure the coaches don't want a repeat of that next year.
As for the secondary, I'm hoping the young DBs step up. I'm talking the freshman Keaton Ellis and even more so Joey Porter Jr. I can't tell you how important Porter Jr could be, at 6'2" he would fill a MAJOR need as a big strong CB. Maybe Castro-Fields will learn how to turn around next year too, we can hope. LOL. Wade seems to have turned on a lightbulb at safety and is coming into his own, and I'm not really worried about the other safety position.
All in all, I think it's a flip of early this year. The Offense might need to carry the slack a couple games as the defense settles in, but not nearly as stark as it was this year for the O. We really have a major chance next year at the CFP, the whole year is set up for us. The roster is completely set, the players are there, the depth is there, and the QB is seasoned.
On the DB’s defense, if you can’t get to the QB it makes their job really hard. I’m not saying they’ve played great but they ain’t had much help from the guys up front either. 3rd and longs have killed us because we ain’t gettin to the QB.
Next year we have to play better at the line of scrimmage. It all starts there. Open up some holes and get a good push. We don’t see that to often. Yes and the d line has to get pressure.
It's my opinion that will be better next year than we are this year. I believe our offense returns pretty much everyone and we'll get better with a year of experience.
Our defense loses some players, but I think the talent behind them is actually better...
Does anyone disagree with that?
I had us with 3 regular season losses this year and 1 next year. +/- one loss. We have done well this year with a young team. Some don't like to hear 'young' but it is true and moreover we are young at the skill positions on offense.
So yes I agree Roaming.
What coaching change do you see? It has been a while since someone has been replaced due to a Franklin decision? Most have left for a better job?

WR coach and the special teams coach were replaced last year by Franklin.
I don't really see any changes due to Franklin this year, I think if it was up to him and he'd like to bring the entire staff back.
I'm not so sure that JF wants elite or potentially elite assistant coaches on his staff.
HCs like Saban and Belichick can handle that b/c either the AC is potentially elite or he puts them in a situation to be elite and he is okay with that, that is how it works in high performing organizations. Whats interesting is whether it be Saban or Belichick, when their assistants leave it doesn't come back to haunt them, they just replace and keep moving forward.
It makes it easier when you have the best players in the country at Alabama and at NE Mr Bill has the best QB that’s ever played the game and it’s an even playing field in the NFL. Belichick is the best coach in the history of sports and I mean all sports.
What will be interesting to see is if Pry or Rahne get any HC offers... The logical next step at a smaller program.
If there are any coaching changes I could see OL and DB. Rahne seems to be morphing the RPO away from full base RPO.
Perspective, we just played a top 3 team away and they were sweating in the 4th quarter.
BTW Yetor had 1 less sack and 0.5 less TFL then the unsuspended show me the $ Chase.

I'd like to see more purposeful running plays instead of RPOs, so I certainly hope you're right about Rahne.
I doubt that Rahne would get any head coach offers worth considering, in the past he has said he's big-time loyal to Franklin and never wants to leave.
While I don't believe that's entirely true, I don't think he'd leave for a small head coaching job somewhere.
I guess the difference b/t Yetor and Young is that nobody is game planning around Yetor.
I get that Coach B has QB B' but it seems to me he does a helluva lot with lesser named players and the fact of the matter is QB B couldn't produce without the other guys; so they matter.
In regards to Saban, correct he's getting the players, look at the difference b/t MS and LSU/AL but so is OSU and a few other schools. I believe PSU is getting the players, I just don't see the development. Even with Parson's or Mato, I just don't see the same intensity level as I did with Lee, Posluszny, Hali, Nassib, etc.. that is huge in the scheme of the game.
I don't see any of the current ACs or coordinators getting head coaching offers, unless it is a small school, and I don't see them leaving PSU for that.
I still believe John Donavan would have been good he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time lol. With the players we have now he would’ve done good.
It depends on what they are looking for... If gaining HC experience they might take a job at smaller program. It would have to be the right situation.
I think Rahne is more willing to tweek and change his offense he just won't do it in season. I look for him to make changes along that line.

Dan Gable, John Wooden, and Cael Sanderson say hello.
No. Just no. Stop there. As far as I know, he hasn’t gotten a job as an OC since Franklin showed him the door. Just like Jay.
