The new league released its rules Wednesday:
- Scoring teams have three options for points after TD: FG for 1 point, the traditional 2 point conversion, and third option to attempt a play from the 10-yard line for 3 points.
- There will be an option to retain possession after scoring, a team can choose to convert a fourth-and-12 from their own 33.
- Two forward passes from behind the line of scrimmage are legal.
- Each coach will be allowed one replay challenge, and decisions are made by a central USFL Replay Command.
- The clock will stop for first downs inside 2 minutes of the second and fourth quarters.
#5 stands out to me as the most common sense rule of the bunch. Have someone in a central location review anything via replay, where they can zoom in/out, slowmo, rewind, etc. quickly. They have all the tech at their disposal to make an informed decision, rather than a ref looking into a small screen asking for certain views. Just seems much better.
#6 is not something I like. That's just too much advantage for a team, most likely for the sake of "exciting" comebacks. However, to me the excitement is generated from having to get to the line, hike the ball if the clock is running (or about to start). Just seems like more nonsense giving offense yet another advantage.
#4 I hate. I don't watch Canadian football for a reason, don't really want to see that stuff.
#3 Not a fan. I like college OT rules. This just skips the OT and goes straight to a shootout
#2 Meh, not really a fan but I guess it's interesting. Who knows?
#1 Could be fun, not sure.
Hey guys, are they showing practice on the big 10 network? Thanks
