Glad we got a new OC quick, hopefully he pans out. He did very well at Buffalo and now Kansas... both were big rebuilds.

Kansas had a ton of injuries and the offense did well despite them.

This is a better hire than I was expecting. Hopefully we can keep Manny now too.

He has just enough time to get settled in and then focus on the portal.

How close is this dudes offense to MY offense? It’s always exciting to get new coaches to see what they can do. Hope he’s a little more physical up front than MY. MY done a good job but just not physical enough to beat Ohio St

Will the new OC help right away or do we keep things as is until spring. I say let him jump right in if possible?

What I do know about him is that he's a former offensive lineman and his offense is built around a wide-zone running concept. So weird in a sense the MY was brought in talking about the same concepts, and now here's another Big 12 guy who runs that same concept. He also ran it with much success in Buffalo.

Kansas also had a dual threat QB. One thing to add is that his offenses also use a lot of misdirection.

Will be interesting. I hope he does well. JF brought him in to run the O as JF wants it to be ran, imo. If so, I just don't see DA excelling or staying as I don't believe AK is gonna change his scheming just for DA.

I was hoping for Moorhead and being paid $600k as HC at Akron, a no brainer to come back at probably $2M as OC, either there was no interest from JF or JM had enough the first time around.

Looking forward to next year, lol, seriously.

Look at all the OC’s we’ve had. Every time JF fired an OC it turned out to be a great move because the team got better. Moorhead and Ryane wasn’t fired they moved on to be head coaches. Really all the changes JF has made have been good ones. Firing Donovan and Rocco was definitely good moves we’ll see about MY down the road.

Let the new OC design the bowl scheme. He has a month to integrate his system, evaluate the existing talent and the existing talent has a month to determine if they fit the scheme and want to play or portal. With opt outs and portal outs (if any), I don't have a problem with a bowl loss. Get a jump on next year both with play design and personnel.

It will be interesting to see if any of the better portal players out there want to play for this OC.

@psu61

I was hoping to get JoMo too.  I have a sneaking suspicion he wasn't even approached,  I still believe Jimmy feels a little threatened by him and really wants a yes man to run the offense as Jimmy wants it run.  Remember "we gotta establish the run....", lol.

Will also be interesting to see how Trautwein fits in. If the O'line coaching has been the problem, I think a change is coming. No sense in keeping dead wood for a fresh start.

@brownale I definitely want to win the bowl game but I’m with ya, let this dude get in here and get started or at least have some input if it’s possible. The dude might not be ready yet but the bottom line is try and win the bowl game. Im stingy with wins brother lol

@psu61 I don't believe it is the coach I believe it is the system, to do the reads on running plays the defense is right there because of the time.

"Really all the changes JF has made have been good ones" - by what metric? He fired a guy and then fired the next guy? Wow really high bar you've set.

I don't think the Oline has been the issue, and if anything this guy has a background in Oline so he'll def. be able to talk well with our OL coach.

@roaminglion Moorhead was better than Donovan and the year Rocco was here we went 4-5 so MY was a good move because we went 11-2 last year winning the Rose Bowl and we are 10-2 this year so I have no clue what you’re watching.

This I agree with in regards to the AK's background in O'line play and coaching, however Traut has to be able to listen and implement if its a coaching need.

I'm looking forward to the bowl game to see what's new and whats the same ol', recognizing there is only so munch you can do in a short time. Could be an awakening!

@psujoe  AK is a Minny native and grew up close to where I live now.  He still has some roots out here.  In fact, a mutual friend of ours is a fishing and hunting buddy of mine.  He told me of the possible hire a few days ago.  I can tell you that he's somewhat of a living legend out this way.

I hope Manny stays and Andy K. turns out to be an awesome O.C. for PSU. Kansas fans are upset but many say we have a great hire.

In 2020 when Yurcich was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas, the Longhorns ranked eighth in FBS in scoring offense (42.7 ppg; second in Texas history), 16th in passing efficiency (156.2) and 19th in total offense (475.4 ypg).

I’m always going to give a man a chance if he’s coaching at Penn St but the defense in the big 12 stink and you see MY numbers at Texas. The SEC and big 10 play tough defense so what works in the big 12 might not work in the big 10 but hopefully this dude AK gets it done and helps get us in the playoffs to make some noise. Just me but I believe we recruited the wrong style QB for our offense but it’s just my opinion.

Interestingly, some opinions point out that DA's potential doesn't fit the AK scheme and others say that his potential could be unlocked by AK.  All I have to say is after being told you have a lot of potential several times, it comes down to, you haven't done shit.

I hope he does well.

With a quick Look at a few stats, the 2 games from this year that might indicate issues are the games against Texas and Texas Tech.  Kansas scored 14 points against Texas and 13 points against Texas Tech.

On 3rd down, Kansas was 0 for 8 against Texas and 0 for 2 on 4th down.  The offense produced 260 total yards.  The poor performance was probably due to a talent gap.

Kansas was much better against Texas Tech and produced 344 total yards.  Kansas went 7 of 15 on 3rd down but 0 for 2 on 4th down.

It’s good that James was able to find an OC with a solid history of proven performance.  Hopefully, the new OC is able to build on his past success and bring innovation to Penn State.
