Syracuse hired one of the best recruiters in the country in Fran Brown who has been the guy responsible for poaching/flipping PSU recruits to Georgia over the last couple years. Now because high school football in NY sucks he has his sites set on PA, NJ and the DMV and he is a NJ guy. Not good news for JF and even worse is the rumors heating up about Manny leaving.

Let Penn St joined the ACC and they go to top 5 recruiting right up there with Georgia, Alabama and Ohio St. kids in the south don’t care about playing Oregon and Washington. Can you imagine Penn St recruiting the south. Kids in the south would love to play at Penn St if they were playing southern teams 6 or 7 games a year.

Syracuse is still Syracuse.

Its one thing to go south and another to go up north, better get the NIL money flowing.

Ironically it was Manny Diaz who hired Brown at Temple, before leaving 17 days later for Miami. LOL

The fact he was at Georgia speaks to why he had great recruiting IMO. They were awesome and bringing in 5* talent before him, and they'll keep on recruiting them after. For example... he didn't have nearly the same success at Rutgers recruiting, where he was previous to Georgia. Of course, I'm not saying he's a bad recruiter... far from it. Just that being at Georgia made things a bit easier.

Of course he was a good recruiter at Georgia. How can you not be? It sells itself. NFL pipeline.

Recruiting to Syracuse to play in a dome in the frozen tundra of upstate NY is a whole different challenge.

@southern-psu-fan Will you stop with the Penn State/ACC stuff. It’s not happening. The ACC is on life support and its top teams are looking to get out. It’s hot garbage with a third rate TV deal. Money talks and the ACC is lagging way behind the B1G and SEC. PSU going to the ACC would be the most financially irresponsible thing they could do from athletic department standpoint. Kids from the south are already playing at PSU. Franklin is recruiting TX, FL, AL, and LA already.

@lionbacker99 Exactly! Syracuse is still, well Syracuse.

Funny when the local TV stn interviewed one of the SU students about the Brown hire, he said "SU really isn't a football school." I'm here to tell ya, they aren't a basketball school either.

Man sometines what you say makes no damn sense. A fourth of Oregon's 2023 recruiting class came from the south. All 4* kids from Texas, Mississippi, and Florida. We had three, all from Florida.

Where are you getting this nonsense that kids dont want to go play in Oregon? They had 8 4* guys and their current Heisman candidate QB transferred from Auburn. FFS man.

29 kids on their roster come from Texas or Florida. How many do we have???

Joe, I think we both watched or listened to the same pod cast, Locked on Lions maybe? I can't get my arms around the guest speaker who is some sort of recruiting analyst from Florida specializing in Florida State. My impression of him is he is arrogant and really quite lazy about his analysis. His comment about Manny Diaz, being a terrible recruiter and a a joke in Florida to be a head coach caught me off guard until he said Manny was better suited for a Head Coaching job at a Mac school. Anyway, one has to take it for what its worth.

I think one of the biggest things hanging around Manny's head is leaving Temple after 17 days. I'd imaging that gives a lot of programs pause, especially a school like Duke. They probably want a guy whobwould at least stay more than a year.

Mostly I was responding to the Locked on Lions podcast that had a “ sky is falling” vibe to it whereas the Syracuse hire of Fran Brown will have a devastating effect on Penn State’s ability to recruit in our traditional recruiting grounds. The pod cast hosts talked about Fran Brown as a Jersey guy hired for his ability to recruit but an as a coach is at best, an ok defensive coordinator. The guest was recruiting specialist Brian Smith of Locked on Florida State. Personally I don’t get a good feel from the guy and I thought his comments on Manny Diaz and Fran Brown were largely overblown…my opinion though.

Syracuse is a perennial 5-6 loss team since the 70's, that's not going to change with the coach. If Saban was at Syracuse, they would still be a 5-6 loss team with a few one offs. Just too much to overcome with geography and recruiting.

@lionbacker99  I know that ship has sailed I’m just saying what could’ve been had Penn St joined the ACC. If Penn State and ND both joined the ACC it would’ve saved the ACC and big money would’ve been pouring in. they might be getting a few southern kids but they’ll never get the ones that Georgia, Alabama and LSU really are after.
