Pennlive is now pay per view. Sad. I know a lot of guys who are worried. Some may jump over with my sites for fall coverage.
as for the “pussy” remark, there IS a huge difference between a senior transferring out and a freshman switching before they get to a campus.
Lol... Whatever Murray. I find it ironic that a kid with a degree and a chance to chase his dream somewhere else is a pussy in your world but a PWO with only one Div1 offer is the second coming. Nice touch seeings that its Easter.
Second coming?? Rflmao!! Get off your high horse tsuga. I called him a new commit. The kid didn’t transfer. He decommitted from UM and committed to PSU. He’s a damn good QB but as I said he is coming in as a TE. And yeah, I believe it’s a pussy move to bail on a team because you aren’t sure you can win the starting job when you have a legit shot to do so. Especially after being with the team 4 years behind a superstar QB waiting your time and learning from a team leader. Bailing on a team at that point in a career shows me he isn’t a leader. He’s not lookin for competition he’s looking for a guarantee without proving himself. I want a Qb who isn’t confident they can’t win that job. I’ll also add there’s no guarantee he has a chance at anything elsewhere.
I just read on espn that Stevens probably wouldn’t be welcomed back if he wanted to come back. He’s burned a bridge somewhere if that’s the case. James Franklin has gone out of his way for Stevens and IMO he doesn’t appreciate it by jumping ship if he thinks he’ll have competition for the starting position. Who does he think he is to think James Franklin should just give him the starting position without earning it? I personally don’t like how this all ended and I don’t think it’s james Franklin’s fault. Best players play...no exceptions! Just my opinion though
It's nonsense when anyone says a quarterback is transferring because they want a "guarantee" to start. In what world is transferring to another school as a senior guaranteeing anything? Whatever school he goes to he's going to have to compete for that job, and Tommy Stevens knows that.
A lot of quarterback transfers have wound up not starting at their new schools... I'm pretty sure that every quarterback who wants to transfer knows what the deal is, they aren't stupid.
Bill... for a guy who was accusing me of assuming things, please show me where Tommy Stevens has even mentioned why he wanted to transfer. Pretty sure you're basing your entire opinion off of what his father said, not anything that Tommy himself has said.
In other words, no one here at this point has any idea why Tommy Stevens decided to enter his name into the transfer portal. As a reporter of high school athletes, I'm sure you know that parents do and say things that aren't exactly in line with what their kid actually thinks or wants.
Jalen Hurts transferred to Oklahoma as a senior, I doubt anyone on the Alabama's staff or in their fan base is saying he's not a leader... or is a pussy.
He’s letting his daddy speak for him. Different situation with the Alabama kid because he knows for a fact he’s #2 because he’s already been beat out 2 years ago.
I’m just disappointed that he didn’t want to compete for the starting QB position. Morelli was a 5* QB coming in and we all thought this kid was going to light it up but MROB didn’t run off and transfer. MROB, DJ Shockley from Georgia and Tee Martin from Tennessee is who I would compare Stevens situation to because these guys stayed on and fought for their positions and it worked out pretty good for ‘em. I do wish Stevens the best though and like I said I would love for him to transfer to Ga Tech because I think he could help Tech won just like I believe he would help penn st win. I still believe he’s the better QB today if health than Clifford is but he needs to prove it on the field.

Lol.....im not on a high horse Billy but let me Splain something to you. You're the one that said this new kid is "a damn good QB" .......and he very well could be. Im not gonna spend my time debating the difference between a transfer and a flip with you when both young men made a COMMITMENT. My issue is you coming on here and calling the kid a pussy.
Look, lm not happy about his impending transfer either but i have enough respect for him not to call him a childish name.
Im guessing you dont have the stones to call him that to his face.

would not be the first time I asked AN ADULT what he's afraid of. 22 yrs old, not a kid anymore.

I don't know Bill, while chronological age may make a person a legal adult, it doesn't necessarily mean they always acts like an adult. I'd be more inclined to say someone is an adult if they stand on their own two feet and speak for themselves, rather than to let daddy speak for them. I'd also question who made the decision to transfer, Tommy or daddy.

You should go into Politics Murrr-dog. Having the balls to call someone a pussy to their face is quite a bit different than asking someone what they're afraid of. Now run along son, I'm about done with you.
Franklin’s staff put four years of development into him and he's bailing because it got tough for him. Define it how you will, I know how I feel about these "modern reward ME NOW" players. As for who made the decision, he's a big boy and could have told dad no if that's how it played out.
I didn't help that they used their own doctor to treat his injury last year either. Coaches would rather the staff surgeons and doctors be used so they can closely monitor situations. Knowing he was in a boot last summer, played injured and had to have another procedure making him miss this spring, I would say his chances of winning the starting job were slim to even.

"Could have told his dad". Yeah, and his dad could be talking out his a$$, you don't know. I find it rich that you chastised everyone for their assumptions leading to wrong opinions earlier, but now you are using words like "could have" to back up yours. Can't have it both ways.
As for the situation now, one could look at the fact that Stevens put his name in the portal last year to say that your assumption is hogwash. He obviously was looking to transfer in a year (2017) where he wasn't going to compete for the job, as everyone knew McSorley was the guy. So knowing that fact one could say he just didn't want to be here, and it's not about "being a pussy" and running away. Transfer portal once? Okay, just looking at options and maybe convinced by the staff to come back.... Twice? Probably just doesn't want to be here. Who knows...
And please with the "modern reward ME NOW players" BS. This kid sat for 4 years and didn't transfer, now all of a sudden waiting for 4 years is classified as "ME NOW"? He decided to transfer, big freaking deal. You don't know why any more than the next person. Saying a 5th year senior (who has never started) is me now is beyond ridiculous. He is nothing like, for example, Justin Fields who used a BS loophole to leave Georgia once he found out he needed to sit for another year behind Fromm.
He’s letting his daddy speak for him. Different situation with the Alabama kid because he knows for a fact he’s #2 because he’s already been beat out 2 years ago.
Why? Saban has said the QB position is open and has shown he will sit the starting QB if he thinks the other guy is better. Also, he beat our Tua his first year, then Tua beat him out his second year. Why does that mean Alabama's starter is set in stone for year 3?
Hurts even came into the SEC Championship and lead the Tide back, no reason to think he couldn't compete for that job this year... Saban, just like Franklin, plays the best players.
And his dad gave one interview... Stevens could have called him and told him to shut up for all you know.
Seriously guys, you all need to get off this "letting his daddy speak for him" crap. The dad gave one interview and you are all falling over yourselves reading everything into it from letting dad talk for him to "Tommy is running away".
One interview... and even if it's more (I haven't seen any others) Tommy could have told his dad to shut the f*ck up for all you know. Remember that mother who spoke out because her kid announced he was going to Alabama instead of LSU? For 3 years she just talked and talked about LSU and he should transfer, blah, blah, blah. Kid never said a word.
Parents do and say stupid sh*t all the time, Stevens father certainly wouldn't be the first parent to give an ill advised interview and make things complicated. Won't be the last either... Heck, Cam Newton's father tried extorting money off his kid LMAO
The article I read on espn said Franklin probably wouldn’t won’t him back so that tells me Stevens or somebody burned a bridge somewhere if the article is true. IMO James Franklin has bent over backwards for Stevens and to me it looks like he’s upset because James Franklin wouldn’t GIVE him the QB position. Like I said Roam I’ll take ‘em in a minute at Ga Tech regardless of why he’s leaving. I don’t think he’s a wuss but he is being a little bit of a crybaby because James Franklin won’t name him the starter.
Come on down to Ga Tech tommy you can cry all you want as long as we win football games lol. Just win!!!

LOL...I used "could have" as an example as if that's how it played out...never said it knew. So roam, if it was daddys choice he could have said no and if it's his choice reverts to: AND YEAH, reward me now. I want to be the starter even though I haven't earned it except I waited my turn to earn it because I couldn't beat out the guy who was starting. Even if he did enter the portal last year, HE WAS INJURED and pretty sure he wouldn't have gotten anywhere. Facts are facts, he wasn't good enough to win the job last year, hasn't proven anything yet and because "they" weren't told that he's the starter then it's time to go instead of working hard and winning the starting job..... period.

run along son you're done with me? RFLMAO! Brilliant. However, yes I have in the past questioned guys decisions and yes, me saying "what are you afraid of, don't you think that's a weak/pussy move has happened". some get pissed, some answer the question.

Makes zero sense, sorry Bill but the logic is ridiculous.
He leaves because "he doesn't want to work hard and wants a guarantee", so he is transferring to another school where he will have to work hard and earn the spot?
Yeah... that makes perfect sense. So basically you seem to think Tommy feels that other teams just give starting QB spots out like candy?
Listen, I know some feel the way they do but...
I find it interesting that a kid can be described as dedicated, a hard worker, and a team guy for 4 years, but then because he decides to transfer all of a sudden he's a me now guy and doesn't want to work hard?
I seriously doubt the kid would have waited 4 years just to get a guaranteed shot at one year of being a starter. If he was really a me now guy, he would have left 3 years ago when he lost the starting job to McSorley. At that point he knew he wasn't going to play for a while. However, he stuck it out, did everything asked of him, worked his butt off by all accounts and was an "ultimate team guy" according to coaches. However, now people want to paint him as selfish and completely forget about the 4 years of hard work and dedication he put in?
Roam, I kind of agree with everything you said about Tommy sticking it out, being a team guy, etc. That is why I really believe he didn't come to the transfer decision on his own. I think he's getting some guidance or direction from daddy. Otherwise, making the decision on his own would be totally out of character based on his track record. You can accuse me of reading to much into this, but I base my opinion not only on his father's statement, but Tommy's silence so far. If daddy shot from the hip about his son leaving the team for greener pastures , an adult 22 yr old would probably issue his own statement to clarify the issue.
I heard if Tommy is still hurt he could transfer and sit out a year, but he could not set out at PSU. Does anyone know if this is true and if it is this maybe why he wants out.
