announced tonight he has a heart condition called Hypertorphic Cardiomyopathy and can no longer play.  PSU is keeping him on full scholarship. Tough news for him. Wish him well

Yeah, I feel bad for him. He was a great prospect and an important piece of the recruiting class. It's good this was  diagnosed now before anything tragic happened.Good luck Nana, you can still earn your degree while cheering on your team mates.

Murray on situations like this does the scholarship that he’s on  go towards the 85 the NCAA allows? It’s awesome that penn st is keeping him on scholarship regardless.

Great questions Southern I was wondering the same thing. I think this has happened before but the player and situation escapes me.

It's possible that he will be a medical exemption.  I believe the NCAA allows it, and it certainly seems like he would qualify for it. It is given to any player who has an injury that ends their career.

If yes, I don't think he counts towards the 85.

An article on pennlive says it does not count towards the 85.

Yup, makes sense.  Good on the NCAA for having this in place.  I like it, it doesn't punish a kid for something out of their control, and allows them to continue on under scholarship.

I know some people would say they could take out loans like every other student does, but that just seems cold. The kid just had something ripped from them, taking the scholarship away that they worked so hard for just seems excessively punitive.  I'm glad they have this policy.
