Defense: It travels, well. They will continue to get better through the year, and we will need them at times. Seems like the best play against our D is to throw it up to receivers. Litteraly the only big plays against us are WRs just outplaying us for the ball. We figure that out, this D will be lock down.

Offense: If Franklin just stops his RB rotation and inserts Cain as the starter, this offense will be much more consistent. He has power, and he hits the hole quickly and decisively. Brown would be a good change of pace, but Cain has to be the starter.

With Cain in we have a dimension we just don't with the other guys. A power run, downhill back that can get the hard yards. No negative plays, keep the offense on schedule and in short 2nds and 3rds. Opponents will have to commit to stop it, which opens up play action for strikes downfield.

It's not a coincidence the OL looks better when he is in there, and the offe se overall looks smoother.

Good points about Cain but we are undefeated so far with running back by committee. Got to give coaches credit. Cain gets more time each contest. Sharing the load means reduced chance for injury. Just saying...

Offensive line continues to improve. Clifford is becoming a seasoned warrior. I like the way things are going.Ā

Michigan is definitely sweating.Ā

My 3 thoughts;Ā  1. I think the team was distracted in the beginning of the game due to Franklin allowing the hair thing to be a big deal.Ā  Should have been a non issue and not even brought up.Ā  2.Ā  I would like to see Clifford slide after getting a first down, rather than before getting a first down.Ā  Especially in clutch situations with the game on the line.Ā  3.Ā  I pretty much agree with what everyone else is saying about the running backs and defense.

I bet Franklin was pissed about the tee shirts. Best way for him to address it is letting the team know how he feels and then just let it go. Ā It was BS that some made it a racial thing. It was nothing more that an a hole old grumpy alum spewing garbage. Ā If Peterson had an issue, his letter should have been sent to the coach, AD, President, or the alumni office. Sending it to the player just proved him to be an a hole.Ā

Being undefeated doesn't mean perfect or beyond criticism. IMO the RB rotation is what has held the offense back, not helped it. The defense has saved us from defeat twice now, time to pick a starter and gain consistentsy.

Taylor from Wisconsin seems to do just fine for 4 quarters, as does pretty much every other RB on just about every other teamĀ

All good points Roam. Regardless, being undefeated is better than not being undefeated. Even a National Champ can find room for improvement. Interesting listening to Franklin talk about the running backs. He said they all bring something different and that alone will rattle a defense. Maybe that’s why Cain has done well. I agree that he is our best guy and when the petal meets the metal, he will be the one holding the ball. And yes. Taylor is special and he is significantly better than anyone else they have. He is also an upperclassman. Cain is a true freshman and what we don’t know is how he is dealing with the pressure especially when many fans are screaming that he should get the bulk of the work. Ā

I am looking forward to the Michigan game.Ā

PSU Deepers (aka Defensive backs) is always a weak area. Ā Pass defense often fails to stop drives and when they intercept a pass, the Deepers fall down. Ā

True, but if Cain is playing with the game on the line... I doubt the pressure is getting to him. If you trust him there, why not earlier in the game? I just don't get the reluctance, I feel we are winning games in spite of the RB rotation.... not because of it.

@roaminglion

He’s the best RB we’ve got and IMO leave him in unless he needs a break or in mop up duty. Nothing is wrong with the OL and Cain proves that when he’s in. Kid is a stud

I agree Southern, I think the coaching staff is overthinking it and trying to please everyone rather than doing what's best for the team.

It's obvious to everyone Cain should be starting with the others in support roles.

Agree Cain is my favorite and has been since game 1. However, Ā not sure after last 2 games especially Iowa game that playing all rb’s hurt us. Cain has 22 carries next closest rb had 4.Ā

Don’t think James Franklin is looking for feedback from you roam. Haha

Using your own logic I'm pretty sure he doesn't need me to trust him either. So if you are going down that route why the heck do you care about me trusting him? Haha

That’s quite an introspective statement. While you mention roads, don’t forget ā€œall roads lead to Roam.ā€ Ā But I don’t think the Roamans played football! Ā

My thoughts on Iowa's Visiting Locker Room

Iowa Locker Room

So during the Iowa chat we discussed who's locker room was pink.Ā  I imagined a bolder pink.Ā  So the Iowa psychology department theorized it would have a calming affect on the visiting team.Ā  Does wearing pink have a calming affect on our women?

Also disappointed in the quality of the fold up chairs.Ā  300 lb lineman sit on them? Ā I imagine we have better.Ā  Maybe Iowa has nicer in the home locker room.

Maybe the ping locker room makes you want to beat them more for playing psychological games.Ā

Ā

The science behind pink being a calming color is actually very controversial. The scientist who conducted the research published a paper on it, which was used as the basis for painting some jail cells pink as well as the Iowa locker room. After that, years later the same scientist repeated his experiment and found that pink actually didn't have a calming effect... and in some subjects seemed to increase their aggressiveness. This research was then repeated by another group which found no difference in behavior.

That said... another scientist conducted some research in Switzerland which DID show reduced aggressiveness and a calming feeling. However, it was a different shade of pink. A somewhat softer, more casual pink. The previous pink used in experiments was more like a neon pink. LMAO

Anyways, anecdotal evidence about Iowa's locker rooms displays that many players feel more pumped up by the pink color in the locker room than calmed down by it. The theory for why that is goes like this: the brain's knowledge that someone is trying to pacify it by using pink stimulates and overrides the calming properties of the color (if there is one to begin with). Basically, since the players realize they are being manipulated... it doesn't work and could have the opposite effect.

Who was the coach that turned off the heat in the visitors locker room during the freezing cold. Boy that’s ruthless lol. Was it Vince Lambardi?
