He said to tell you it is more than likely one of three things or a combination of them.  They're all easy fixes so relax.

1. Flinching from the flash. He said we all do that when we first start. Remedy......he suggested using a 4f prime (to start) because it goes off faster and gives you less time to flinch.  Also suggested replacing the flint with a piece of wood and dry fire it to get yourself used to looking down the sight and not looking at the lock (I used to do this too).

2. jerking the trigger instead of squeezing it.  Dry firing will help this too.

3. Pulling your head away to see if you hit your target. Dry firing will help that too.

He suggested while dry firing several times, make sure your back and neck muscles are relaxed.  Take a deep breath, let half of it out and SQUEEZE the trigger. Get in the habit of doing that BEFORE you even think of live firing. go into your garage and sight in on the smallest item you can find and concentrate on that and nothing else.

Shoot from a bench with your rifle in a good vise.  start at 25 yds and increase your yardage.

Here's the biggie....you sit at the bench and have a buddy either load or or not load it, not tell you one way or the other, and observe how you shoot.  You'll know pretty quickly whether you're flinching or not.

Lastly.....have fun!!  If you're having an off day, hang it up and go at it another day.

He also said to post pictures of your success from time to time.

The other Jarhead concurs. Particularly the "...have your buddy either load or not..." Pretty sure you'll be surprised at what it reveals.

If that fails, you can drive on down to MCRD Paris Island and do a couple weeks on the rifle range. Although they aren't all that forgiving on the train end.

Come to think of it, it's very much like keeping you're head down and eye on the ball when golfing. I can shoot, but have a tough time not looking up to see where that damn ball is going into the bushes.

Why is this in the Football section? The watercooler exists for this type of discussion... let's keep it tight

Sorry to offend Roam. Past practice was, after season was over, we'd relax that rule a bit.

So anything that's not PSU football related, doesn't belong here? Pro ball? HS ball? Covid? NASCAR? Updates on members under the weather? Occasional jokes? Ball busting? Asking for a friend.

I'd say football related. HS and Pro are related as it's football. COVID was related as it shut down seasons, games, etc. NASCAR isn't, Southern usually takes that to the cooler but sometimes gets a little something in on a thread. All little jab here and there is no big deal. Sometimes threads kinda turn into something else, but were started in relation to football. Eventually Cave would rather that go to the cooler too if it persists in the thread.

However, specifically titling a thread about guns isn't related at all. It's cooler talk. Not bad to talk about, just a different section.

I'd say there are exceptions though... Something like best wishes on Veterans Day or things like that would IMO transcend that rule.

@roaminglion I'm not disagreeing. lol Except maybe it should have been in the Outdoor section vs the Cooler. I'm just saying a little tolerance and this thread would have died in two comments, three if 61 chipped in. Are all the topics on the Football page going to be policed as the "Muzzle Loader" was?

There was a lot whole of covid talk on the football page, that had nothing to do with football. We spent a few pages talking cigars, no one said a word. How long did we beat up a past member on the football page?

I'm with you, some things get carried in directions other than the original intent and yes, probably should be taken else where. I'm just saying a bit of tolerance never hurts. If it gets carries away, then throw out the yellow flag. You'll have as hard a time convincing me otherwise, as you will convincing SPF he doesn't know football.

Ya know I wondered the same damn thing?? It was a different thread though. Somebody posted a thread about Bill Belichick on a PSU FOOTBALL FORUM.

The beautiful thing about these various forums is if you see a topic that doesn't interest you; you're free to scroll on by.

So you are saying you dont see the difference between posting something that's actually about football, and posting something that's about guns?  Also, I kind of remember a former assistant of Belechik you know... being hired as our He

LMAO okay.

And your " You can keep on scrolling" comment? Two things:

1.  Then why did cave make separate forums forums and print rules?

2.  Ironic since you could have kept scrolling right on past my comment too

It's interesting how defensive people are being about this, I didn't yell scream or throw a tantrum... I literally just posted "Hey take it to another forum like cave awants us to" and apparently thats just asking way too much lol

Oh, and this post is perfectly fine here!  My goodness, maybe if Clifford reads this he will be able to pass better!!!!

Well, I met up with my brother out in the woods one day in muzzle loading season & built a little fire to heat up our sandwiches & during that time we rehashed the PSU football season & talked about the  season to come.  So YES, there is a connection!

@roaminglion   I'm saying this is a PSU football forum. That's literally what it's called. So your post about BB isn't any more PSU football related( and spare me the BOB connection, that's just plain stupid) than a post about shooting a muzzleloader.

According to your reasoning and rationalization, had the OP titled it "Bill Belicheck's tips to shooting a flintlock" he'd have been in compliance?

If you dont see how talking about a football coach is related to a football forum and guns are not, I really cant... One is, you know, about football and one is not. FFS

Yep. And neither one is about Penn State football. But because your post was about an NFL coach that makes it alright??  Got it.

"Related to" Please instruct me as to why football is not, in any way, related to PSU football. So by your logic talking about Olympic wrestling has no relation to PSU wrestling? At all? Same sport?

Again, if Cave says that any football talk is not allowed on the PSU football forum I's gladly take it to the water cooler. But your argument with the "yeah but" as if guns and talking actual football is the same is beyond ridiculous.

@been-there-ii

And here I thought ALL Along this was a Penn State FAMILY and Friends Forum!! I would venture to guess that 99% of what is posted is PSU/football related. A lot of virtual friendships have been created here and I assume some have even met in person. We don't need post days on end about something unrelated to PSU football, but boy do I value some of the people on this site and it is SO NICE to have friends outside of my daily routine....you know, the ones that throw in some hunting, NASCAR, first grand kid, son or daughter who did something cool in their life and EVEN those who celebrated 55 years of marriage.....because their wife had no other place to go this far into it!!!

GO STATE!!!

Absolutely no one is telling anyone not to post those things on the forums, just to post them in the appropriate forums as Cave set the site up that way for a reason. That's all.

Also, no one yelled, screamed, or otherwise called anyone names saying they were stupid or inconsiderate for doing so. IMO pointing out there's another place to post about guns on nitsoftheroundtable is not offensive, it's just letting them know so next time they will use the right forum as they should.

Also, if Cave tells me PSU Football is for PSU Football only and that NFL or other college football stuff is not related... I'd post it somewhere else because that's what he wants and I respect the site he created for us.

Caven said we could talk any football on the Penn St football forum. We can talk GT or whatever, it doesn’t matter. I believe NFL talk is also ok because it’s football and we have players from Penn St all over the NFL. A few nascar, nba, MLB nuggets ain’t going to hurt anything every now and then just don’t make it a habit which I don’t think any of us do. Water cooler was kicking a year and a half ago you had to bring your big boy pants 😂

Exactly! That's what I was trying to say. Stuff that's "not supposed to be in the football forum" will pop up on occasion. This time it had to do with firearms and hunting. It was one thread, trying to be helpful, answering a question from a previous thread...on the football forum page.

We all know it's happened in the past and we all know it's going to happen again. As Mt Nit pointed out, the Football page is where we come to share our family stories with our Football family. We all know in a couple weeks, SPF will be telling Navy to get ready for NASCAR season. It's a rite of spring!

If it's not politically motivated, where's the harm in one post?
