Interesting comments from James Franklin about this week's game. He seems to realize that they let some great opportunities slip by in the past few years and enough is enough and they need to find a way to beat Michigan State. Here's to 1-0 this week!
I don't know why, but losing to Mich St always bothers me more than losing to Mich or Ohio St. I just don't care for Dantonio. Again, don't ask me why, but I never cared for the guy. Hope we win big on Sat., but I'll take any kind of win, regardless of the score!
In a way me too but it’s just that they are a team we shouldn’t lose to. We have better athletes , better facilities and way better fan base.
I was surprised to read Penn State is 1 and 4 against MSU with Franklin at the helm. The record should be 3 - 2 at the worst but I would still be unhappy.
I like a lot of things Franklin has done but his on-field results are not one of them.

Does that tell you something?
James Franklin’s on field results are great. I don’t think some of y’all understand the disasters this man took over and he’s won big at both Vanderbilt and Penn State. He’s probably blown a few games but he’s won way more games that he should’ve lost. All coaches blow a game here and there but very few can go out and get the wins James Franklin has under the circumstances he took over. It’s been as uphill battle for him most of his head coaching career and just look at his wins record.

NO... next stupid question
Dantonio is known for trickery when it comes to penn state. However, I believe that will change on Saturday.
@exesuwarrior95
What do you mean Nostradamus Tighten? Do you mean that he won't be tricky anymore starting Saturday, or what?
I share most of the group sentiments. I still say PSU's secondary is its great weakness. I do not necessarily mean the players as they are no doubt skilled and hard working. However just throw against us on 3 rd or even 4 th and you will likely succeed. I watched us apparently play zone while Michigan once again marched right down the field . Constant catches underneath while 3 or 4 of our secondary have to come up to make a stop. Little blitzing to help. It goes on with no change. Sounds like coaching play calling. Let's face it Michigan once again outplayed us in the second half and only an oops saved a tie into OT. Other coaches surely know this and will ( continue to ? ) exploit it. MSU will likely be a narrow affair. I hope not but ... OSU will kill us I fear. They have few weaknesses. We have to really put it together. It can be done. If we play our secondary like we have ... good night ... at least I hope its not one point again. On 3rd why do we have Clifford trying to make longer passes? I counted 3-5 seconds while he searched for a target. No line can keep out a good defense repeatedly that long. How about some short first down stuff. Geez I get so frustrated at what I see.
TRUST
Relax brother we’re 7-0 ranked 6th. Bend but don’t break defense. Long drives hardly ever work because of mistakes teams make throwing the ball just like the Michigan receiver dropping the ball. It’s nerve wracking watching but it usually works you just notice more when it doesn’t work lol so do I lol. The RB position IMO is the weakest I’ve seen I a long time but that happens when your best RB is a freshman and this happened because our stud RB left early for the NFL.
Southern, I will not dispute the fact that James Franklin has faced a significant challenge with regard to building the program. I have great respect for his focus on recruiting Student - Athletes and demanding they be responsible young men. My comment was driven by the 28 - 16 record against Big 10 opponents during the 2014 - 2018 period with 16 of the wins coming against a combination of Maryland, Indiana, Illinois and Rutgers.
I think Coach Franklin has done an admirable job in some areas including the most important which is developing the student athletes into responsible young men.
I am hopeful that we will be very happy for the remainder of the season.
Thanks for being civil and a gentlemen.
The fact that the Spartans are 4-3 should not diminish the fact our offense has been having problems in the second half the last two games (at Iowa & vs. Michigan) and, thus, force our defense to be on the field longer than they should and when we did score, we did it quickly. We need drives that are long in time of possession to keep our defense fresh.

You're right Alex. Another way to keep the defense off the field would be a whole bunch of big play TD's coupled with a whole bunch of defensive 3 and out stops, LOL.
Alex, looks like you are a new comer to the forum....welcome.
Thanks, looking forward to seeing Penn State bring the CFP trophy to Happy Valley.
- Defense is good, MSU outscored 72-10 against OSU and WISC, our defense should keep them under 10
- Offense needs to have 45% TOP or better, the performance against UM was lacking.
- MSU run defense has been poor against Wisky, OSU (Other post), We are not WISC or OSU but we need to run better.
- With #3 we need to improve short pass offense.
I haven’t watched much of Sparty this season and don’t trust stats too much. While I enjoy the big play and quick score, we need to have some sustained drives, especially in the second half because they had a week off. I think we went conservative too early last week and kept UM in the game, but they are a better team.
