@southern-psu-fan

He called a very poor game yesterday. I don't think he is ready for a HC position. I am not throwing the towel in on him, but that was a mess yesterday!

You have to know Yurcich won't be our OC for much longer. Someday he will be gone as either a HC somewhere but not a OC here. Looking over the field, who's out there and who wants to come here? If Fickell leaves Cinci it is likely USC or LSU. Stoops from Ky. is a name thats out there too. I just don't see Fleck leaving for another Big10 school. I think given time and recruiting, Yurcich will be fine.

You mean the man who's allegedly a QB guru but still doesn't have a backup that's prepared to play when needed? Maybe we should hire Purdue's OC instead because he had 3 QB's ready to play vs Iowa or Illinois OC because it was his backup who came in and won the game for them while our starter was hobbling. The entire PSU coaching staff is inept. That was the worst football game I've ever witnessed in person at any level in my life, the entire team was physically and mentally unprepared to play and looked like they hadn't even practiced the entire time they were off. I wouldn't support the hiring of anyone on this current staff as head coach and won't miss JF when he goes.

@psujoe   It’s his first year here remoh. Clifford was looking great before he got hurt. He should’ve put Roberson in yesterday in OT that was on him or that might be James Franklin call. I believe Yurcich is doing a great job our QB is just beat up. We’re undefeated right now with Clifford healthy we could’ve easily out scored Iowa and Illinois with Clifford at 100%

I can see it now, we'll finish 9-4 but you'll claim we would have been undefeated if the starting QB hadn't gotten injured.  Even if Clifford had stayed healthy this coaching staff would have found a way to muck at least 2 games up like they normally do. Speaking of the coaching staff mucking things up how'd you like that drive at the end of the first half ? We get the ball with 4:45 left on the clock and a chance to maybe put the game away with a score and instead we get total confusion, no sense of urgency as the clock winds down, 15-20 yards of offense in 3 minutes and then a punt.

I guess we'll use the "it's his first year" excuse for that too.

@psujoe   It is his first year and the bottom line is we both know we’d be undefeated if Clifford was a 100%. I still don’t think we beat Ohio St with the defense but winning 11 or 12 games is still better than what we are looking at now. For some reason we can’t have our guys step up and make a play to win the game on defense and it’s a pattern because we’ve lost to many games not catching the football in crunch time to win the game. How many times are we going to drop the dam football on an int that could’ve won the dang game. I’m just as frustrated as everybody else trust me.

Let me make sure I got this straight:

We wanna run JF (89-45 overall) out of town on a rail and replace him with Matt Rhule (47-43 overall)??  does that prety much sum it up??

I'm surprised Sandy doesnt come over to this board and use some of the suggestions I read on here.  The world aint coming to an end fellows.  Relax and enjoy the ride.

I see the excuse makers are back. When I was talking about PSU fan base being complacent these two guys are exactly what I meant. I'm not sure why the one guy's even here as he's professed his love for Alabama as his number one team long ago.

I think we would be undefeated if Clifford had not gotten hurt, however I don't think this team was going undefeated; it was just a matter of time before the O'line troubles blew up against better teams and the same goes for the D. I really don't think JF is at the level of being able to make adjustments when needed when you take into consideration the same mistakes that have happened year after year. Had it not been for McSorley's  natural leadership and ability to improvise and Barkley's natural ability to break outside and either power over or flat out kick the jets on, those years would have been dark also. There are some things that just start materialize as a pattern and I think that is what we are seeing with JF; and again, not saying he is a bad coach, he is not on the same level as a Saban, Sweeny, Urban, Fickell and Day when he has the resources to do so or in developing those resources to do so. Hell, like him or not, Urban flat out knows how to win at the collegiate level no matter where he has coached; Saban is just consistent; Sweeny knew how to utilize his talent when he had it (I do think Clemson is returning to a 2-3 loss team), Day of course is doing his thing, and Fickell, well Luke is doing something right.

Granted the above mentioned coaches are exceptional for different reasons and they only represent like 3% of current D1 coaches; thats a small ass club! Next man up!

To say Saban is cosistent as a coach overlooks the fact that he gets the pick of the litter.  I bet Matt Ruhle would love to switch players with Saban.  On any Saturday Saban is fielding a 4.5 star team on average while Franklin is 3.5 and Ruhle is 2.  Then Saban's 2 deep also averages over 4 and his 3 deep also?  Now do Saban's players play closer to their 'potential' than JF's?  Maybe.  Do they play more to their potential than Ruhle's or Iowas?  I don't think so.  I bet most coaches in the 10-20 range would be thrilled to have Saban's second team.

But let me point out how Saban did at JF's age at MSU.  Would he have ever turned MSU into a perennial powerhouse?   He and a long list of super college coaches failed in the NFL when they were handicapped by a draft and not having the best players.

Point being is that, Saban is consistent with getting the pick of the litter, why? Saban didn't emerge over night and become a success, he evolved and made the best of each situation, even at Miami, he realized it ain't happening and left; regardless of how he left and why is irrelevant, the man left and picked up at AL and carried on. If he would have come to PSU and had the same success, nobody would be complaining; well maybe a few sacrosaint goofers would.

JF has garnered incredible recruiting classes, but what has he consistently done with those classes, what pattern emerges? Hey, coaching is not easy and only a few truly perform at the top, and the ones that do exploit the advantages and disadvantages, utilize their resources and set a tone for success. JF may very well be performing at he top of his game considering the situation and resources that he has available, e.g. maybe PSU to JF is what MSU was to NS.

So tell me Remoh, what's your plan??  Who are we gonna replace him with??  You seem hell bent on firing a guy that currently has a top five recruiting class with the nations #1 QB on his way to HV. Please tell me you're not in upper management anywhere or God forbid own a business.

Tell us all Remoh, how many looks did you get coming out of HS??  I'm guessing you never even played the game at any level higher than JV; but yet you seem to have all the answers.

Do I get frustrated with JF??  Hell yes I do. Do I think he should learn from his mistakes?? Absolutely.  But I also like that fact that he puts an education first and foremost in these young men's lives.  I also like the fact that he's teaching these boys how to be better men, husbands and fathers. And lastly, the fact that they are held accountable for their mis-deeds and stumbles in life. THAT football coach and THAT team represent MY alma mater with pride and honor (two words that you know nothing about) and in that speaks volumes to me. It's not always about wins and losses in football or in life; perhaps you're the one that needs to learn that.

Now, if he leaves at the end of the year to go somewhere else so be it; we hire a replacement and move on....but we'd better never hear you bitch about how JF was a better coach or any other of the trash you spew on a daily basis.  If we fire him now, that leaves us wide open for the cynics that said PSU is nothing but a "football culture". Is that what you want?? We lost two games, big deal.  News flash, we're probably gonna lose a few more this year...so what??  You'll survive I promise you will.

Call me a Franklin apologist if you must.  If that makes you feel better today, fire away.  Just keep in mind most of us on this board pretty much have you pegged and know what you're all about.

Couldn't have said it any better Tsuga. Am I pissed with coaching decisions made yesterday, hell yes! I am extremely disappointed with team execution, hell yes. But like you said, there is a lot more to football than wins and losses. If that makes me F'd up then I'll wear that badge as well!
