I've seen people on this forum ask those who are calling for JF to be fired who their replacement choice would be and my answer today is Luke Fickle.
Ehh, give the man a break. His daughter has sickle cell and can't see his daughter and wife. That is a load of stress. On top of that he's coaching a football team.
Anyone who thinks JF is being fired needs to pass me whatever they are smoking because it must be some real good stuff

Definitely not being fired this year especially with people like you inventing excuses at every turn. I see the new one today is "His new OC didn't have enough time" and lest not forget last weeks "too many new coordinators" and the prior weeks "covid19".
Tom Allen > James Franklin

You're definitely the most aware person on this forum! People on this forum continue saying the things they said years ago on Pennlive and sadly none of them remember ever saying it.
Fickell may end up being a good coach at a major program. However, coaching at Cincinnati is a little different than coaching in the B1G. Nothing against the guy, I’d just be very skeptical if he replaced Franklin. For the record, I don’t think Franklin is going anywhere unless he decides to leave. His buyout if he is fired is rumored to be very expensive.

I'm real sure the administration at Penn State is coming the boards to find my quotes in order to justify keeping him around. Yup, that seems totally legit.
As does saying an OC 4 games in has had enough time with his team to warrant being fired. Again, totally legit to fire everyone during a pandemic after 4 whole games in an aborted season... after an 11 win season. Sound logic.
@lionbacker99 exactly right 99 wasn’t he 6-7 at Ohio st as a fill in after Trussell was fired? I know it was a bad situation but 6-7 is unacceptable at Ohio st plus we beat ‘em that year with a fill in coach after the crap hit the fan in 2011
The USC rumors starting to fly again ( saw this on an MSN article this morning) though it seems perposterous that in a season of covid an 0-4 Franklin would replace a 2-0 Helton
Exactly right SPF. Coaching against ECU is not the same as coaching against Ohio St, Michigan, or Wisconsin. Heck, it isn’t even the same as coaching against Indiana or Purdue. Fickell is a good coach at Cincinnati. The transfer of coaching success to a major school remains to be seen. The only way Franklin isn’t the coach at Penn St next year is if he decides to leave on his own.

LMAO shall we go into James combined record vs those teams?
@psujoe. He’s won 5 games against These teams more than any other coach in the big 10. What’s Wisconsin record against Penn St, Ohio State and Michigan since 2016?
I agree, Franklin isn't about to be fired. However, I'm not impressed by this OC. He really hasn't shown any creativity. Seems to be recycling what was already in place. I just think his play calling leaves a lot to be desired. Also, he had nothing to do with last year's 11 win season.

Wow 5 whole games since he's been at PSU!! That's something to brag about, thanks for proving my point.
And for the record I also don't believe he will be fired after this season but I do believe it pushes him very close to the hotseat.

Franklin hasn’t lost to Wisconsin. In fact, PSU hasn’t lost to Wisconsin or Iowa since the Paterno era. Although, that may change next week. Franklin has some lopsided losses to Michigan but he also has some lopsided wins and has beaten Michigan 2 of the last 3 years. While Franklin and PSU have only beaten Ohio St once since his arrival, they have clearly played OSU closer than any other team in the B1G since his arrival including the 2014 OT game with a underwhelming Hack and multiple questionable calls in OSU’s favor. I’m not saying the coaching preparations haven’t stunk this year, but you have to give the guy credit when it is warranted.

I agree. This is why I am wondering if Franklin is restricting him with the playcalling and forcing him to call plays within PSU’s former system (i.e. Moorhead/Rahne’s system)?
I don't know if Franklin has anything to do with it. Maybe your right. I just wish we could see better play calling, more creativity, especially in the red zone.
I don’t think James Franklin gets involved in play calling unless it’s going for it on 4th down other than that he lets the OC do his job, same way on defense he lets pry do his thing.
Southern, Pry hasn't been doing his thing all that well lately!
I gotta say I'm in the camp that Pry really hasn't lived up to the hype. Seems like secondary flat out sucks for the most part, D line is hit or miss and LBs are abut the same with the exception of an exceptional player or two. Not one damn D player that any team has had to scheme around and I don't think any teams really schemed around Parsons. I've thought there have been some players who should have just ate up O lines, but no consistency or smack mouth dogs on that D in many many years. I thought Shaka was gonna be one of those players but I'm not impressed.

I don't have a problem with calling Franklin a good coach but it's rather obvious he will never be great or anywhere close to being elite and I thought greatness is what PSU football is striving for. If fielding a 2nd - 3rd tier team is your goal then JF is your man but if greatness or national championships is the goal...
@rip. Defense is struggling this year but Saturday when the offense was moving the chains and gettin points the defense started playing better hopefully they carry it over to this weekend against Iowa we need a win bob
We need a win badddd, Southern. Hope Pry does his homework on Iowa so we don't give up another opening drive TD. To me, when the other team scores on their opening possession, that shows lack of preparation by the DC. Also, I just hope James goes with Levis. The whole team (offense & defense) seems more pumped when he's in there. As you always say buddy "just win"!
