@psujoe  Miami was Mannys first job as HC and yes he was average, Lincoln Riley is in the big 10 today at USC and has been no better than average. Manny is in the ACC championship game coaching at Duke today. Manny also has a very good track record as DC coaching in the big 10 and some of us believe he’s grown as a HC and will carry that over to being a good HC at Penn State if he gets the job. Look at UCS since Lincoln Riley got there.. he ain’t won shit and he’s been there for around 5 years.

I still think a big part of being successful is how well a coach "fits" in a particular situation.  I really believe Manny is a much better fit for PSU than Riley.  He was already with us and had tremendous success in the role he was playing.  I believe he'd do well as our HC

I also agree that Manny is not a good fit as HC. DC yes. He is a good head coach for the ACC because it is a very weak conf. I just don’t think he could handle being the HC here at Penn state. I’m more on board with Chesney he has been good everywhere he has been. That said I know he’s never coached at this level but I think it’s a better unknown and I think it wouldn’t cost us an absurd amount of money. Riley is a good offensive mind I get that, but what has he done against good opponents? Not any better then JF.

I'm not pro Riley, all I'm saying is it makes absolutely no sense at all to argue for Manny while bad mouthing Riley. I am with you and would take a chance on an unknown before hiring either of those 2 guys. It sounds like Chesney has been told we're not interested in him so he's most likely headed to UCLA.

@psujoe why not get Harline? He’s not my first choice but he’s worth taking a chance on if we’re taking a chance because of his work as OC this year. Ohio St has always had a vanilla offense but they’re pretty dang good this year. I only got this year to judge on but I like what I see. Send Jim Knowles back.

@southern-psu-fan Check his record at Oklahoma. He was out of his element at USC, not a city guy. He seems much better suited in a rural environment.

Not really my first choice either, but the dude certainly knows how to coach QBs. His downfall at USC and Oklahoma was his loyalty to his DC. His defense was always beyond awful but he finally axed that dude

A lady librarian I know that retired from Penn state off campus said it's going to be Matt Rhule.

I would include Hartline in the unknowns I said I’d take a chance on before hiring Manny or Riley.

I’d say NE would be fine with that decision now, lol!

@psujoe  Lane Kiffin handle ole miss perfectly. I hope Harline is the guy but for his own sake he should’ve come immediately because he has work to get done assuming he’s the guy.

I guess we’ve been doing so many trick plays the last 2 years that Penn St is trying to trick all the other teams on who we want as head coach even if it’s giving up 2 years of being competitive and losing g 2 recruiting classes. I don’t get it smh 😂 but some smart football guys on here don’t believe it’s a problem so maybe I’m overreacting lol

I don't know why you keep saying "two years of recruiting classes" like any coach doing well next year wouldn't be able to recruit for 2027.

It is weird though, not sure why this is dragging out so long.

@jimmy-v 🤣 Better let her know, Rhule couldn't beat PSU w/ a very fresh off the bench, freshman QB and an interim HC

@been-there-ii

AND the QB, RB and at least one receiver played 'Lights Out'.  Credit where it is due.  That offensive display was only second to OSU.

So IMO Ruhle had a good day offensively, his defense is terrible defending the run but they almost got by.  That was the Rutgers bowl game, I'm guessing they were up for it.

PSU was playing for what?  A bowl game for those that will not opt out?  15 more practices?  TS?  Plain old character?

Seems Rutgers has had a shot when the NCAA takes away half the scholarships or when we fire our coach and play a backup QB.  But hey they beat MD.

I am not wild about Riley...But you never know...You bring him in you better get a hell of a defensive coach in cause his defenses are terrible...As far as the 80 million buyout that isn't out of line in todays big time college athletics...You are talking about multi billion dollar franchises now...My personal opinion is before you blow 80 mil to buyout Riley use that for the 15 mil to buyout Cignetti's deal and throw the other 65 mil toward his salary package and you are ahead of the game...
